My dear friend captured this moment during our indigo workshop on Saturday.
I wish you could smell the henna tea I’m stirring in this pot, it’s for a potent indigo vat. We’ll be dipping into this Saturday.
P.S. I’m working on a special step-by-step reboot guide - how to get the most out of your indigo vat tutorial. I’ll share it in my “highlights” and put it on my website too.
P.S.S.I often get asked what to do w/ the sludge that remains at the bottom of an exhausted vat. I’m curious to hear what other folks do? I just dump it in our garden, but do you get creative with it?

It was beautiful to feel all your smiling faces beneath your masks yesterday Thank you for supporting my work! And being my very conscious community. Someone asked yesterday, “what’s the most political thing you have?” I tend to be more abstract w/ my designs but this fall I decided to make
something that feels like it matters more than anything...a scarf encouraging everyone to VOTE! I’ll admit Biden wasn’t my first choice, or second or third...but as a mother everyday I think about children being held in cages at our border and I feel powerless to help. What I can do is VOTE!

For many of us nature has been a refuge during the pandemic.

I have found going on a daily swim — it’s less about the swim, more about the act of letting go, surrendering into the unknown, feeling supported by sacred water. Feeling connected to life force energy —— this daily act of swimming has been everything for me this summer.

This bamboo facemask is my ode to sweet, restorative, nourishing waters that have been my saving grace this summer. I am thankful to live in the land of ten thousand lakes.

For longer than I can remember (25+ yrs.) I’ve drawn this little half moon design. I’ve noticed a trend where folks will share photos w/ me and lmk I’m smiling behind this mask. As we mask up, many of us are learning how to smile more with our eyes (or maybe that’s just me) but I wanted to create a series of that - I’m unofficially calling - - - mask up! with a smile.

So yes, these are inline w/ my design aesthetic, but the energy behind them is, yes, these hard times, but allow yourself to recognize the joyful moments in your day and the sweetness in life and smile.
(Even if no one can see it because it’s behind your beautiful mask, they will feel it in the twinkle of your eyes and heart.)

If I were to attempt to define my aesthetic in a word or conceptually it would be defined as wabi sabi. The Japanese concept that sees the beauty in imperfection. This hand-painted top is the embodiment of wabi sabi - ness.

Happy Saturday! Positive news to share! Due to all your face mask orders in May we were able to donate $425 to yesterday and take advantage of the matching grant offered by Bank of America. Our $425 became $850 which is the equivalent of 3400 meals for people in need. For every $1 donated, they provide 4 meals.
