To Whatever End

To Whatever End explores the tension between victory and devastation. Do we win in suffering or does suffering ultimately overcome us? A fragile dance between human nature, or in this case, armor and fruit. This piece was inspired by the Red Rising book series by Pierce Brown.

Curves

I create abstract stained-glass art by combining standard sheet glass that I purchase at the glass store with interesting glass objects that I buy at flea markets, garage sales, or Goodwill, When hunting for glass, I look for interesting colors, textures and patterns as I know they will play with the light in ways that celebrate the nature of glass. I'm less interested in imagery and more interested in playing with light as it passes through the fascinating material of glass.

Based on an Unsplash photograph by Brazilian artist Carol Oliver ().

What got me about this picture was the look in her eye. It made me stop and think about what was going on. I think it's hard to make people really connect with a portrait, but this image did that to me right away, so I wanted to paint it.

This is also my first oil portrait. I normally work with acrylics, charcoal, or pastels, so this was me trying something different and learning as I went.

Never Give Up! Draw strength from your challenges, and use them as stepping stones to success.

Yes! I am a survior!! I have used the "Never Give Up" attitude to help my mental health post breast cancer treatment. To stay positive, I created a charcoal sketch that shows my journey. The waves represent the challenges I faced and the swimmer?s eye shows my confidence and my will to keep moving forward.

Sanguine Blooms

Sanguine Bloom explores the quiet intensity of emotion through the layered complexity of a single peony in full expression. Drawn to the organic movement of petals, Melodie Moxley-Olson captures both strength and vulnerability?each fold revealing a tension between softness and structure.

The deep crimson and rose tones evoke more than just beauty; they suggest something deeply human?passion, memory, and the subtle ache of holding onto fleeting moments. At the heart of the bloom, darker shadows pull the viewer inward, creating a sense of depth that feels almost introspective, like looking into something both intimate and unknown.

Working meticulously with colored pencil, Melodie builds rich textures and luminous gradients, allowing the flower to feel alive?almost breathing. The piece becomes less about a flower itself and more about what it represents: growth, fragility, and the emotional layers we carry beneath the surface.

Sanguine Bloom invites viewers to pause, look closer, and find their own meaning within its unfolding.

Spring

Thank you for the invitation. I uploaded an image that has my business logo at the bottom. If you prefer, I can give you a photo without the logo at the bottom.
I have been making stained glass for about 25 years. I like to combine regular colored glass with reclaimed glass that I harvest from of old glass plates, vases, ashtrays, and a wide array of other objects. The old glass offers patterns and textures that cannot be found anywhere else. I am also an architect which I think compels me toward more three-dimensionality in my work. I'm less interested in imagery and more compelled by color and the reflection and refraction of light. For me, stained glass panels are living paintings. They breathe and move and change according to atmospheric conditions and the angle of the sun. My style has been changing lately and leaning toward the psychedelic. Plans for new projects will push my work in that direction.
