Fall Art Tour countdown: 7 days 🍂

One week away! Shining a light on these gorgeous wooden jewelry boxes we just unpacked. You'll probably recognize these jewelry boxes if you've strolled the gallery before. We've carried this line for many years. One of our classics.

They're made by a small business in North Eastern Wisconsin/Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Their small staff does everything from handling the raw lumber through to the hands-on production and finishing processes. They use handmade jigs, custom pieces and equipment designed by them. Each jewelry box is expertly hand sanded to a smooth buttery finish and labeled with all the different woods used in each box.

Fall Art Tour countdown: 10 days 🍂

Firing the kiln today! We spend yesterday morning finishing up some glazing and yesterday afternoon loading and bricking up the door. In today’s kiln: lots of bowls, ikebanas, mugs, and blates.

We’ll fire all day today, cool for the next two days, and we’re planning to fire once more before the tour next week. We’re busy studio bees around here.

Looking forward to new pots that’ll be out on shelves in time for the Fall Art Tour starting next Friday 🎉

Fall Art Tour countdown: 11 days 🍂

Monday morning is for all the coffee! And we're popping in on this bright Monday to share about some new pottery that'll be available during the Fall Art Tour – especially our TRAVEL MUGS which have been in very short supply the last few months (and have actually morphed from travel tumblers with coozies into proper mugs with handles). They all have handles now!

Travel mugs come in two sizes, three colors (rust, verdigris, and dots), and they all include a silicone lid that fits snuggly on the lid. We can report the lids stay on well and the mugs fit comfortably in our car's cup holder. Claire enjoys using hers every morning. See photo as proof!

Fresh travel mugs available now and we'll have more before the tour starts too! Still planning on firing two more kilns before the 16th 💃🏻😬🙈

Fall Art Tour countdown: 12 days 🍂

Shining the spotlight today on some rings n' things! We've got a funky little selection of rings right now and some wooden "6 fingered hand" ring holders that I'm especially fond of. I snapped a picture of mine that I use at home that's filled with a few beauties from my personal collection (you'll recognize some of them from the gallery!).

The next few images are some of the rings we've got out on the shelves right now. Mixed metal flowers, recycled typewriter keys, spoon rings, sea glass, rings made from vintage tins, and more are all available. Pop in to try some on and find one or two to take home.

Don't sleep on these wooden hands either. Placing my rings on it at the end of the day brings me more joy than it realistically should.

Checking in today with some of our new glassware. I've been living for using these handcrafted water carafes with matching tumblers at night on my bedside table. Using practical items that have a cute little bit of punch just makes mundane tasks (like drinking water) a little easier.

Checking in today with these cute fingerless gloves that are new to us this fall. Each one is wildly soft (made with recycled cashmere) and has a unique embroidered pattern on the top. All the patterns are so good.

Fingerless gloves are perfect for fall and the "in between" temperatures. Keeps ya snuggly but doesn't bog ya down. Available in store now!

✨ Saturday Pottery Demonstrations ✨

Today's project: Flower Arranging in Ikebana Vases

We're excited about this demo today! Ikebana Vases are one of our favorite things to make and sell because they make it SO EASY so create a cute bouquet of flowers. SO today we're giving demos on flower arranging and explaining the simple steps. Anyone can do it!

🌸 Fun fact: Diana and Tom used to work in flower shop in Carmel, CA in the 1970s that Tom's father bought after he retired. They learned all about flowers and arranging bouquets. They moved to Wisconsin after that and Tom even worked for Felly's Flowers in Madison for a spell before Diana and Tom because full time potters. So flowers are a real thing around here!

🔥 New things around here 🔥

🧱 We bought new bricks for our kiln door! Our old kiln door has been our tried and true door for many years (563 firings!). And let me tell you, those bricks have seen a thing or two. Many of the old bricks were broken in half (or thirds, or more!) and stacking it on had become an even more cumbersome task than it normally is.

Every time we fire we stack the door on brick by brick. Usually Claire and Tom stack the door on together - assembly line style - but that action had become difficult with all the broken bricks. So we ordered new bricks, loaded the kiln with pots, and yesterday Claire and Tom ceremoniously stacked a whole new door of factory fresh bricks 🎉

And we're firing right now! Peep the last two pictures to see the new door in action. It's red hot inside and luke warm on the outside just like we like it!

Fresh pots coming next week! Bowls, tumblers, mugs, trays, and *drumroll*.. pitchers! So excited to get some fresh pots out in the gallery and on the website.

✨ Saturday Pottery Demonstrations ✨

Today's project: Carving!

Each carved piece is painted with a blue slip while leather hard and hand carved to create each individual pattern. All patterns started off as an idea, became a sketch, and through the years have been honed into the designs you know and love today.

Just like our unique customers, no two carved pieces are ever *exactly* the same. Although we repeat the patterns, each one is hand carved and therefore a one of a kind piece of art. We love learning about which pattens people gravitate towards and why. Which pattern is your favorite?
