Bronzeville Arts Ensemble Founded in 2013, Bronzeville Arts Ensemble is a professional theater company in residence at Black Arts MKE in the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

Founded in 2013, Bronzeville Arts Ensemble (also known as BAE) illuminates the Black experience in America by developing and creating theater while also providing artistic and educational programming opportunities, collaborating with the local and national community, and inspiring healing through positive social change.

A new permanent public sculpture honoring Vel R. Phillips, a Milwaukee trailblazer who gained prominence as an attorney, politician, jurist and civil rights activist, has been installed at the Downtown plaza that bears her name. The piece is named after the motto that Phillips lived her entire life by, “I Didn’t Do It Alone.”

VEL & GROPPI! Performance #3 is today at 3:00 PM at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 27thn and Center. Tickets are $25 at the door, $15 for students and seniors. There is parking in the lot and behind the building.

Black Arts MKE, Inc.: The BAMKE THEATRE FESTIVAL got off to a strong start! Last night, the excellence of BAMKE’s youth programming was on display for the entire community to witness. Bravissimo to the BAMKE Youth Night Program Team! Drums Up! Guns Down showed out! The Ailey inspired dancer moved us to tears. The songstress and dance party leader were wonderful! Malaina Moore and Young Amari were the perfect hosts. Next Act opened their doors and won our hearts. Don Pannell, thank you for the photos!
