Alverno Presents collaborator brings contemporary ballet to Williams Bay TONIGHT and TOMORROW only! Ferro Pavilion on Geneva Lake, Aug. 27–28.

Five world-class dancers from Milwaukee Ballet, the National Ballet of Ecuador and Peru, and beyond join forces with experimental percussionist Jon Mueller to reimagine what it means to be a dancer or “sylph.”

Choreographer Dawn Springer works to create a sustainable freelance platform for "retired" world-renowned dancers.

GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!! 🕺💃 The one and only David Ravel introduced us to choreographer Dawn Springer and asked to help spread the word about the biggest show of her life, one four years in the making, an in-the-round contemporary ballet with world-renowned ballerinas featuring Jon Mueller's music called Sylph, October 11-12 at Jan Serr Studio. We recently got a sneak peek, and we're blown away. This is a show you don't often see in Milwaukee, and we want to make sure it's successful so we can see more like it.

Beyond this show, Dawn’s vision is to create a sustainable freelance platform in Milwaukee for top-tier dancers who’ve transitioned out of full-time companies. As a professional dancer for a variety of reasons, many women are forced to "retire" from a full-time company in their 30s and start their freelance careers. That kind of work may be easier to find in other cities -- but Dawn is trying to create that business model here. This is the start of building that community.

SURPRISE!!! We haven't posted to this page in years, but we are delighted to announce David Ravel is coming out of retirement for one very special show on Thursday, October 20 at The Cooperage. Named after a Paul Westerberg song about the power of ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things, “We May Well Be The Ones” is a benefit concert to inspire folks to VOTE and raise awareness about an election with state-wide significance.

Per usual, a diverse array of Milwaukee’s best is coming together under Ravel's direction. This is all Chris Porterfield of Field Report's fault! Porterfield and his band, Field Report, will
be joined by B-Free & Quinten Farr, Tontine Ensemble, Caley Conway, Marielle Allschwang, Sarah Vos, Treccy MT, Ellie Jackson, and M Cree Myles. In addition to original material, they will be re-interpreting the music of Paul Westerberg, Laura Nyro, Gil Scott-Heron, and others.

Alverno College's 56-year-old Alverno Presents performing arts series came to an end with one final show Saturday at the Pitman Theatre, featuring Texan gospel group the Jones Family Singers.
