Russia's invasion and the war in Ukraine continues to be of interest to many. Here's a short interview I did just 5 hours before Zelensky's visit to Washington DC two weeks ago. Several friends have encouraged me to post this. You may find it interesting and, if so, feel free to share it. Hats off to Andy Moore for his thoughtful and well-researched interview.

Filmmaker and author Chip Duncan joins Andy Moore to discuss A Different War, his book documenting Ukraine’s war through photos, stories, and poetry.

The Sound Man is headed home, to Milwaukee! Our short documentary will screen as part of the "Milwaukee Show II" at the Milwaukee Film Festival on Friday, October 2nd, at 6:30 pm at the Oriental Theater. We would love to see you there! It is a perfect opportunity to share the film with our family and friends.

“The Sound Man," is a short documentary film which features 62 year old Nairobi-based sound engineer Abdul Ramadhan. While working with acclaimed photojournalist Mohamed Amin and others at Nairobi’s Camerapix production company, Abdul recorded the sounds of revolution, civil war, genocide and famine throughout East Africa. Throughout the documentary, Abdul speaks candidly about the tragedies he has witnessed and details how he--unlike many of his colleagues— made it home alive. He has traveled the continent for his work, yet Abdul continues to reside in his boyhood home in Africa’s largest slum...Kibera.

We hope you can make it out on October 2nd!

We're making progress on our Michigan shoot! Chip has spent several weeks this year traversing the UP, photographing and filming footage. The first image I've posted is from Tahquamenon Falls, and the second is a map of the UP. As you can see by the locations circled on the map, we've gathered a wide variety of imagery (throughout several seasons!). One of those locations is "Two Hearted River," which Hemingway wrote about in his short story, "Big Two Hearted River." I'll leave you with a quote: "At the edge of the meadow flowed the river. Nick was glad to get to the river. He walked upstream through the meadow. His trousers were soaked with the dew as he walked. After the hot day, the dew had come quickly and heavily. The river made no sound. It was too fast and smooth."

The Duncan Group is NOLA bound! We are proud to announce that our short documentary, THE SOUND MAN, has been accepted to several outstanding film festivals taking place in the upcoming months. Most recently, we have been accepted to the 2015 New Orleans Film Festival, which runs October 14-22. Celebrating its 26th anniversary this year, the Oscar®-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival has firmly established itself on the regional film fest circuit as one of the most reputable in the country. It was named by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the "25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" in their 2012, 2013, and 2014 editions. We can't wait to share our story with the audience.

Check out our updated movie poster--Theran has added some snazzy film festival laurels--and stay tuned for more info about future SOUND MAN screenings! Thank you for your continued support, Duncan Group friends!

They say filmmakers will do anything to 'get the shot,' and that theory was tested and verified on Friday! As part of our ongoing Michigan film project, Chip and David Crouse had the opportunity to scale the Sault St. Marie International Bridge. The bridge spans the St. Marys River between the United States and Canada connecting the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Last Friday, Chip climbed to the top, carrying 60 lbs of gear and standing 225 feet above the water. I'm excited to check out the footage and see Michigan from an entirely new perspective. We're just in the initial stages of filming, but we can't wait to share the finished product with you in about 18 months!
-Katie

Edited to add: No, David Crouse did not grow a beard. He was behind the lens on this candid shot :)
