Wisconsin’s oldest fully professional performing arts organization, the Florentine Opera, has been bringing a little bit of the world to Milwaukee since 1933. We’re a powerhouse for all different voices and stories, which have endured through the centuries and resonate with our humanity and passion. We’re a live, supersized experience, created in-the-moment through theater, staging, lighting, lavi

sh costumes, and beautiful song, bringing you the most immersive and all-encompassing artistic experience possible.

While the spotlight finds the performers, the soul of the Florentine Opera has always been fueled by the tireless visionaries behind the curtain. In 1967, a powerhouse ensemble of leaders—including Jane Pettit, Lois D. Usinger, and Eileen Glasbrook Kelly—took the stage in a different way.
Led by the formidable Audrey Baird, these women formed The Opera Club. From driving season ticket campaigns to the meticulous publication of our programs, and constant promotion they didn't just support the company; they built the foundation upon which every aria since has been sung. We owe our longevity to their grit and their grace.

Our biggest stars don’t always wear costumes. Since 1983 we’ve been dedicated to passing down the love of opera to the next generation. We’re turning prestige into possibility, creating a bridge to discovery for students across Milwaukee, the Florentine has worked to provide the youth with an unforgettable opportunity in learning about the possibilities of opera.
Through the Wisconsin Opera Theater, there are shows such as Everything You Always Knew About Opera, performed in 1982 giving students more insight on the importance of opera. We believe that when a young person should be able to explore all of the options when finding their voice, opera can be that gateway.
We aren't just building audiences for the future; we’re inspiring the creative leaders of tomorrow.

As the curtain falls on this season at The Florentine Opera, we’re celebrating the incredible Baumgartner Studio Artists who brought so much artistry, passion, and heart to our season. We cannot wait to see where their next adventures take them.

Lauryn will spend the summer as an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, covering multiple roles and performing in several productions. In the fall, she’ll head to Opera San Antonio to sing the role of Tisbe in La Cenerentola (Oct. 15 & 17) before returning home to us as the Second Lady in our production of The Magic Flute!

Danny is kicking off the summer at Brevard Music Center, performing in Le nozze di Figaro and H.M.S. Pinafore while also serving as a staff pianist for the Steans Institute Singers Program at the Ravinia Festival. He’ll then continue his incredible journey at The Juilliard School as a Vocal Arts Piano Fellow.

David will also be joining Des Moines Metro Opera this summer, where he’ll cover the role of King Roger II in King Roger.

And for our sweet Jamila- stay tuned! Be sure to follow along on social media for exciting announcements about what’s next for her.

Zach will head to the Berkshire Opera Festival this summer for performances on July 31 and August 2 as Ali in André Grétry’s Zémire et Azor. Then he will be returning home to us once again as a Baumgartner Studio Artist and we could not be happier!

Thank you all for sharing your immense talent, dedication, and joy with the Florentine family. Once part of the Florentine family, always part of the family.
