Artist Reception: Homecoming by Warren King

Wednesday, June 24th from 5-7pm

King’s sophisticated sculptures explore his family’s origins in Shaoxing, China, their journey to the suburbs of Wisconsin, and how he understands this displacement in light of his own Western upbringing. King’s sculptures often combine thematic and aesthetic elements from Chinese and Western traditions, masterfully working cardboard into near life-size figures and wall pieces that recall traditional lacquerware and woodcarving.

This exhibition originated at the James Watrous Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin, where it was co-curated by Jody Clowes and Warren King. Dedicated to Wisconsin artists, the James Watrous Gallery is a program of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.

This reception is co-sponsored by the Organization of Chinese Americans-Wisconsin

The artist will lead an informal gallery tour at 5:30 pm.

Join us at Lynden and get hands-on with invasive species management! Come to learn how our land management team identifies and controls invasive plants using tools like prescribed fire, goats, hand-pulling, and more. This workshop is perfect for beginners, native plant enthusiasts, and professionals. After a short presentation, you’ll head outdoors for hands-on experience with tools provided by the land team.

*Dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring work gloves if you have them.

In our eighth year of recognizing World Refugee Day, the HOME Refugee Steering Committee at the Lynden Sculpture Garden invites you to join us for a series of free, family-friendly events that celebrate Milwaukee’s refugee communities through art, food, poetry, and performance. Our theme for 2026 is We Belong/You Belong: Joy and Unity Against the Odds.

According to the United Nations, “World Refugee Day was first celebrated on June 20, 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. On World Refugee Day, we celebrate refugees’ contributions and seek to build empathy and understanding for their plight and their resilience to build a bright future.”

We begin with a World Refugee Day Community Celebration on Saturday, June 20, at the Lynden Sculpture Garden from 11 am to 4 pm. Organized as both a resource fair and a celebration of many cultures, visitors will be able to make art, sample food, and enjoy stories, poems, music and dance, and gather information on local services for refugees.

We celebrate World Refugee Day again on Monday, June 22 from 11:30 am to 2 pm at Milwaukee City Hall. The event, co-hosted with the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families – Bureau of Refugee Programs, will include a children’s art exhibit, performances of music and dance, poetry from refugee communities, hands-on art-making activities, and food trucks.

Join us at Lynden as we embark on our eighth season of Sound Bath & Labyrinth Walks. This year’s sound baths are in collaboration with Sevan Arabajian where they’ll guide you through ambient sounds and frequencies for an evening of rest with astrological influences and a candlelit labyrinth walk under the summer evening sky. 

*Please bring something to rest on and cover yourself with, dressing comfortably and appropriate for the weather. If it is too cold or raining, the sound bath will be moved indoors.

May 12th from 10-11am: Moving Sculptures with Katie Hobday

Let’s build simple sculptures designed to move with air, balance, or gentle motion. We will explore how materials shift, sway, and respond as they create sculptures that move in unexpected ways.

Let’s Make Together ~ is designed for children aged 3 -5 and their adults.

We are delighted to announce the re-opening of the Bonsai Exhibit at Lynden on Saturday, May 9, 2026, World Bonsai Day!

Cost: Free 

~ This is a collaboration with the Milwaukee Bonsai Society and the Milwaukee Bonsai Foundation. ~

During the season, the Bonsai Exhibit is open from 10 am – 4 pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and by appointment.
