"Built to Inspire: The Quadracci Pavilion at 25" opens today! Experience the Pavilion’s evolution from an ambitious architectural vision into one of Milwaukee’s defining civic spaces.

Visitors begin in the Museum’s rotunda on the parking level, where large-scale construction photography captures the extraordinary effort behind the Pavilion’s creation. As they ascend through the building, they encounter an original architectural model situating Calatrava’s work within the Museum’s existing architecturally significant campus, a cinematic timelapse documenting construction, milestones that reveal the Pavilion’s impact, opportunities to explore its history through a refreshed audio guide, and share personal stories.

Every evening, the wings glow from sundown until around 10 p.m., shifting hues, fading, and glowing across Milwaukee’s skyline. On celebratory occasions, they will even take on colors inspired by the moment!

Opening Oct. 23, “Beneath the Surface: Mining and American Photography” arrives in Milwaukee following its critically acclaimed debut at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The Washington Post called it “a smart, bracing show,” while The Wall Street Journal praised its examination of the industries and tradeoffs behind American energy development.

The exhibition brings together 180 years of photography to reveal the environmental, social, and human consequences behind the extractive industries that power modern life.
