April began dancing over two decades ago and has been performing and teaching ever since. April’s dance training came from her coach Rick Gossard of Northwest Dancesport. She is certified through the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) as a Pro/Am Teacher. Her education and excelled training was propelled to the next level while being trained by Skippy Blair of Golden State Dance Teachers Ass
ociation (GSDTA). A large part of her furthered education and experience comes from training in the Universal Unit System. April’s dance tenure has included but is not limited to: Washington Dance Club, Abbey Ballroom, Rocking Horse Dance Barn, USA Dance, Northwest Dance Sport, Pierce, Highline, and Green River Community Colleges as well as through local Parks & Recreation Departments. Widely respected for her ability to teach solid social dance basics, April specializes in leading & following techniques and diagnostic skills, and is quickly able to spot a dancer’s problem areas and suggest a change in technique, resulting in immediate improvement. April is able to break down patterns and concepts and teach fundamental dance techniques in a way that makes it so easy to understand. She knows both the leads and the follows part and can teach and dance both sides. April loves choreographing and teaching all styles and levels of dance, whether for beginners, wedding couples, competitive dancers or show case performers. Her emphasis is on keeping each style of dance in its true form. Due to her broad knowledge of Ballroom, Country, and West Coast Swing she has noted the difference and feels it is crucial to keep them separate as to preserve their essence. While April has spent a great deal of time becoming an amazing dancer and winning many first place titles in competitions in Ballroom and Latin her first and foremost love is in teaching. It is instinctive and natural for her and as you watch her teach you will see how much passion she posses. She has an upbeat personality and her teaching style is cutting-edge and fun. April has a sense of duty to help her students become the best dancers that they can. She creates a comfortable and fun environment to learn, while at the same time pushing her students to succeed. Her enthusiasm for dance and the joy she receives seeing her students learn to dance continues to fuel her desire to reach out to the community and share her knowledge. Teaching dance is April’s purpose and passion in life!
