After my trip to Jackson Hole and Grand Teton I was very inspired to work on wildlife paintings. A lot of people ask me why I don’t paint realism on all my art. I was trained in two colleges for almost 6 years on drawing and painting. When I got out of art school that was all I was doing - realism. Just didn’t sell much but did lots of prints. Lots of galleries turned me away in Arizona.

Now I hate the smell of oil paints now too. So I utilized my love for watercolors and transferred that into Acrylics. They are very close together as a medium. I feel like combing the looseness of Impressionism and mixing it with realism I can achieve an artistic style of my own.

But that’s not enough…you have to come up with subject matter, themes, and series of paintings that move people and invoke feelings that they can compare to their own lives. Then, hopefully they will love it enough to buy it from you. 😎

I started this Rocky Mountain Elk painting. It’s a work in progress and I only have 8 hours into it so far. It looks very realistic now but I will try and finish it with some more noticeable looser brush strokes. Still slinging paint!

Had a really good trip to Jackson Hole, WY, Yellowstone NP, and Grand Tetons NP. We saw lots of really neat stuff and Jackson Hole is the bomb! Made some gallery contacts there and in comparison they make there art really big there! Made my paintings look small. Saw lots of 4ft x 6ft paintings and 5ft x 5ft ones. Might have to up my game. 👍 Went to the National Wildlife Museum there and saw some really cool stuff! Saw lots of Buffalo there in the National Parks as well. Got some good resource photos for art!

Truly blessed to have these come out the same week. Feels like the sum of all your hard work for the past 2 years of painting is finally paying off. I feel like everything that happens in the world is all timing…my time is now to break into this field. I tried to when I was age 25-27 and got lots of closed doors. Very discouraging.

My full-page Ad was just released in the August/Sept. issue of Southwest Art Magazine - pg. 34. These go out free to all the big western art shows and art auctions around the country and to all the participating galleries. My hope is to generate some calls and hopefully some new gallery opportunities. Thanks for all your support!

I’m excited to get back into my Sedona Series again. I started this back in April a big 36” x 48” canvas and put it aside to get ready for that art show on June 5. I have about 6 paintings I started and put aside over the past year. So now I’m gonna try and finish some of them.

If you get a chance to pick one of these Art of the West magazine - July/ August issue, I made it into pg. 26. I gave them 8 pieces to choose from and they thought this one would represent my art the best in the magazine.
