This Saturday, June 13 at 7pm at The Moviehouse, we hope you'll join us for a screening of director Jon Bowermaster's documentary film THE KEEPER which follows John Lipscomb, one  of more than 300 “Keepers” around the globe who look out for their respective rivers. Lipscomb patrols the Hudson River, along with his dog, monitoring environmental concerns after decades of industrial damage. After the film, Jon will talk with Germantown Board member Kaare Christian whose work involves Waterfront Revitalization and other environmentally-focused aspects of town planning and governance,  and conduct a Q&A. Our First Friday Film Club host Neil LaBute usually leads a discussion about a currently showing film but this month The Moviehouse is presenting a special sneak preview screening of LaBute's own new feature, "Murderous," which is not yet in distribution.
Shot entirely in and around the historic Salvato Mill in Salt Point, NY, and starring Gia Crovatin, Thomas Sadoski and Jordan Baker, Kevin Kilner, "Murderous" follows the exploits of an emerging female filmmaker—who has just had a breakout hit with her first feature—as she struggles to write her next script while negotiating successive visits to her isolated home in upstate NY from two very different people who may know a lot more about her past (and her work) than she would ever want them or the rest of the world to know. The new thriller from writer/director Neil LaBute is by turns chilling, funny and deadly, a spine-tingling chamber piece in the tradition of Rope, Dial 'M' for Murder and Sleuth.

In 1987 Harry Roseman took a trip to China; While there he took more than 3,500 still photographs and recorded more than 30 hours of sound. At the time he figured he would, at some point, do something with that material. When he started work on these films he set up a few basic rules. He was not allowed to use any images or sound that he did not produce on the trip, but he was allowed to alter the sound and images and animate as needed for the sake of the films. CHINA 1987 is the result.

See it tonight at 7pm! A panel discussion will follow with Harry Roseman and his collaborators on the film - Rea Silvia Feriozzi, Lieb Mathieson & Benjamin Keddy.
