So simple, but I never thought input gain could have a dramatic effect on the quality of my recordings. The part about signal to noise ratio is especially important because if you record at too quiet a level, the ratio is linear and the noise level can be too close to the signal level which means when you turn it up in the mix/computer, you hear a lot more noise that you want to hear.
