My Art Life
It is 2020 and we are still experiencing the pandemic that is Covid-19. Orders are to wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash hands frequently. Some are following, others not so much. People continue to become ill and over 200,000 have died in the U.S. alone.
As for me, I used the lockdown to work on my skills, drawing all over the house, exploring new ways of making art, utilizing materials in my studio to try new things. For 3 weeks I created an “urban sketch” of the rooms and things in my house and for more than 2 weeks I was busy creating a Self Portrait each day. That was fun and I learned so much, always having avoided drawing people but determined to get it to actually resemble ME!
After exhausting those two topics, I turned my attention to my first love: Plants and Flowers. For the past week or so I’ve drawn and painted the plants in my sun porch, utilizing some of the same techniques I explored earlier, working on watercolor paper, not in a sketchbook.
This is the first time since Bob died that I have had the desire to do that and it feels like some sort of a turning point for me. I hate to say it, but this forced lockdown has been a great opportunity for me to really focus on my art and I have enjoyed myself immensely. My heart breaks for those sick with the virus and worse, dying from it and I don’t for one minute think it’s a good thing. But I try to look at MY glass as half full and have tried to use this time in a productive way.
Thanks for your interest in me, my Art and my life. Stay Safe and Stay Well.
