After 2 back surgeries and a spinal cord stimulator implant in 2024, I found a creative outlet during those hard times in crafting and floral preservation.

MADS Broke Back is my journey of healing, strength, and handmade beauty. Proudly serving the QC 🩵 Hi, I’m Melissa! I married the love of my life Michael in 2023 and we share our home in Milan, Illinois with our two dogs, Bjorn and Gyda. Between my second back surgery and receiving my spinal cord stimulator implant in 2024, I began exploring flower preservation after deciding to preserve my own bridal bouquet. What started as a creative outlet during recovery quickly grew into something so much more. That’s how MADS Broke Back Flower Preservation came to life — “MADS” for my name, Melissa A Dennhardt Shipp, and “Broke Back” for the journey that shaped me. What began an outlet during a time of hardship has become a true passion that I deeply enjoy — creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind keepsakes for every person who brings their flowers to me. It’s a story of strength, healing, and handmade beauty, and I’m so grateful to share it through each piece I create.

This year certainly hasn’t gone as planned! Three surgeries in one year, two of those just this past summer, is far from my normal. While it’s brought some unexpected challenges, one thing that has never changed is my love for what I do and my commitment to giving every piece the time, attention, and care it deserves, without rushing the process or compromising the quality of my work.

There is something so timeless about this collection. Her beautiful white bouquet preserved against that deep black with touches of gold leaf turned out absolutely stunning.
