Art Birmingham is this weekend, May 9–10—my first outdoor art fair of the season.

I’ll be sharing new work from The Quiet Work of Birds, a series that explores nurturing, joy, and the quiet persistence to carry on. There’s something sacred to me about the act of building a nest, and the way birds sing their way through the day. It’s a subject I’m drawn back to, again and again, each spring.

I’m so excited to invite you to two in-studio painting workshops on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7 at my home studio in Milan, Michigan! 🌟 All materials, tools, lunch, coffee/tea & water are included — and you’re welcome to join one day or both.

📅 Workshop Details:
🎨 Working Color – Putting Theory into Practice
📍 March 6 • 10 am–4 pm
Learn to mix with intention and confidence — including effective ways to lighten, darken, and create sophisticated neutrals without “mud.” You’ll make a color reference chart and a small painting to put the skills into action.

🎨 Student’s Choice Subject
📍 March 7 • 10 am–4 pm
Bring your inspiration — a photo, a print, or choose from the still life setup — and we’ll paint a 16″ × 20″ oil + cold wax piece together. Instruction and demos will support every level.

Workshops are small, supportive, and welcoming — perfect whether you’re just starting or want to try new techniques.

Yeah, I've been hiding, but like a mole that keeps popping up, here I am.

Twenty seasons of taking my art to the street.
Nineteen years at the Ann Arbor Art Fair.

I stumbled upon these photos, and I had a WOW moment. When I was 16 years old, I went to the Ann Arbor Art Fair all by myself, spending the whole day lingering at the big, painter booths. That experience planted the seed in this farm girl's brain. "People can actually do this for a job!" Now, I can say to my younger self: "You've come a long way, baby."

I love snow and sunshine—especially when the temps sit in the 20s. The songbirds were dancing all over our bittersweet today, and it reminded me that I hadn’t shared this piece yet.

This finch landed in Northville, Michigan. I couldn’t wait to get the install shots of this Goldfinch and its’ companion Blackbird. I will put the Blackbird up in a separate post.

I had the pleasure of hanging my “Path to the Beach” painting in this grand 1870’s historic home today. The home is in my hometown of Milan, Michigan and it has been lovingly restored over decades by a few different Milanites. The current owner has had it since 2006 and has collected several of my paintings and prints. This new piece is the largest and hangs in her dining room. She says it will remind her of Lake Michigan where she vacations during summer.

Sometimes it works out that I get to actually hang my art in its forever home and I love that! Even better when I get to see previous work and the work of my artist friends. This is one of those homes. They’ve been collecting for a long time and have an amazing art collection. I’m always honored to make the cut.
