We will be closed today as we rebuild our critter corner shelving, upgrade our tanks to bioactive setups, improve climate control for the winter, update our gaming library, and rotate our inventory.

Things may be like this off and on for a while, but we promise it’s worth it. You’re going to love the changes we’re making to our space!

Our Giant Shield Mantis, Shinobi, has passed away following an accident during molting.

Shinobi was one of the finest animals we have worked with. She was calm, gentle, curious, and almost cat-like. She often "danced" for visitors, swaying like a leaf in the breeze. It's a common mimicry behavior in mantises, but she exaggerated it in a way that made kids laugh. She was wonderful with children and took well to careful handling.

Mantises often select unsuitable molting spots, which contributed to this loss. At the arcade, we believe in "failing forward," so we want to share what we learned in full transparency and thank the keeper communities who have helped us grow.

1. Consider a *very* tall, all-mesh enclosure as they are a better fit
2. Set molting spots with lots of height away from the floor
3. Secure every branch so that it can't sag or bend down
4. Raise humidity when a molt is suspected, but not too high

In this case, a low-hanging branch bent toward the ground, and the molt failed in the short time we were away. If you keep mantises, we hope you'll learn from our experience, and we're happy to share more about preventing difficult molts.

Shinobi will be buried in the church flower bed with an honorary perennial, a lasting reminder to care for our animals so that they thrive, not just survive.

It’s been a difficult week, but we also want to continue to extend an invitation to guests to consider volunteering with us and sharing their expertise so that we can provide the best care possible for these amazing and stunning animals. Howdy, y’all! 🤠

We will be closed this week due to a number of events, a new product launch, and preparations for new extended evening hours which we hope to post some videos about soon.

We’re doing a lot to improve things around here like joining the local chamber of commerce, organizing our space, updating care routines for our animals, adding games (we see you, Oregon Trail people!), planning a new weekly club, and solidifying our hours to best serve our community.

Come visit us at the Midland Antique Festival this weekend in Davisburg, or visit us next week when we’re back at it.

We apologize again for the inconvenience, but we promise it’s worth it!

Hello, friends!

We wanted to share an update with our community. We've made the decision to pause our Terror on Tape event series for October.

We're shifting more of our focus toward online sales and events while we work on building local traffic here in Milan. That means we'll be stepping back from hosting in-person events for a while, but we want to be clear: we're not going anywhere. We're simply adapting to make sure Milan Community Arcade is here for the long haul.

On a more exciting note, we're putting the finishing touches on the second version of our Glow Kit products! We'll be bringing these to our online marketplace, offering them wholesale, and of course keeping them stocked in our local stores at the arcade and Adventure Ink. We'll share updates as soon as they're ready.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We're grateful for this community, and we're committed to doing whatever it takes to keep games going together.
