Instructor Spotlight: Chris Hammack
This week, we’re honored to shine the spotlight on Chris Hammack, a carver whose influence and style have shaped so many artists in our community. Chris draws inspiration from three remarkable carvers: Bob Robertson, Andy Anderson, and Harold Enlow. He appreciates Harold’s technical and controlled approach, Andy’s loose style and wonderful sense of humor, and Bob Robertson’s incredible range—from the most complex realistic carvings to unforgettable caricature pieces.
When asked about his favorite carving, Chris says it’s hard to choose, because he often sees mistakes in his work shortly after finishing a piece. It’s an honest reflection of an artist who constantly pushes himself to improve, grow, and never settle—and it’s one of the many things that makes his teaching so genuine and relatable.
Chris’s favorite place to carve is in his shop, with his dog close by. It’s a quiet, comfortable space where he can create, reflect, and stay connected to what he loves most about woodcarving.
Come meet Chris at the Roundup!
