The History Behind Piecing for Pebbles...
Pebbles is a 16 year old beagle-basset mix who had been a part of our family since we adopted her from a Beagle-Basset rescue when she was 9 months old. Now that she is in her twilight years, she has slowed down and her favorite pastime has become curling up on a warm blanket for a nap in the sun. As we watched our lifelong friend begin to slow down, we l
earned about an organization called Muttville. Muttville is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2007, dedicated to changing the way we think about and treat older dogs. It is rated 4 out of 4 stars on Charity Navigator. Their goal is to create better lives for senior dogs through rescue, foster, adoption, and hospice. Muttville’s mission spoke to us on a personal level, as we watched our dog move into the next stage of her life. A recent job change brought us to Texas, where my husband and I started volunteering as doggie foster parents with a wonderful organization in Midland, Texas called Permian Basin Animal Advocates (PBAA). This organization relies solely on fosters to house dogs and cats they rescue in the area. After the animals have been fully vetted and spayed or neutered, they begin the process of finding loving, "furry-ever" homes for them. In 2022, they saved 700+ dogs, and 100+ cats - pretty remarkable for a small group of local volunteers! Pebbles has made many new dogie friends since arriving in Texas, and we will continue to welcome many more fosters into our home this year. I have been a K-2 teacher for over 25 years and love the energy and honesty that young children bring to the classroom every day. After our recent move though, I decided to try something a little different. Quilting has always been a relaxing hobby for me. I love the way you can piece fabric remnants together in so many creative ways. My goal was to find something that I could have fun being creative with, while finding a way to make a difference in my community. The result - Piecing for Pebbles. I hope you find something you can enjoy while helping me support these worthy causes.
