Taking a moment to shine a light on our friends at the Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation, who are at the tail end of their big charity auction. Supporting our summer interns is just the tip of the iceberg of their wide ranging and potent work as community arts advocates!

Tomorrow afternoon! Please consider joining us at 2pm to celebrate the last exhibition of this phase of mosaic work, this time featuring new creations by Pierre Sylvain and Sandra Christie. If weather permits, we’ll be hanging out by the art at 428 Main St, and if not, we’ll move indoors to the basement of Middlesex Music Academy. And if you can’t make it, you still have time to visit the site and view this stunning work.

Funding for this project has been provided by the Middletown Commission on the Arts and by the Connecticut State Legislature through funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, administered by the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts.

Come join us at 2 on the afternoon of Saturday, February 22 (one week from today) to celebrate the last exhibition of this phase of mosaic work. Not only will it be a fun gathering but you’ll get to see this lovely piece by Pierre Sylvain (along with new work by Sandra Christie) in person, where it is even more stunning. This piece is a portrait of Fabio Bogani, who is thought to have been the first of the many Italian immigrants to settle in Middletown.

Our final Mosaics on Main show is up! New work by Pierre Sylvain (depicting Fabio Bogani, thought to be the first Italian immigrant to settle in Middletown) and Sandra Christie (depicting shad, one of the coolest fish around). Many thanks to the artists and to the installation team (including, pictured here, Spencer, Gordon, Sandra, and Angie).

Check out the work and mark your calendars for the afternoon of Saturday, February 22 to come celebrate with us one last time (at least until the next phase, down the road, once we transition towards installing work in the tunnel).

In this whirlwind season, we have already mounted another show at 428 Main Street. Here is a small section of artist Mi Nawabutsitthirat’s stunning mosaic depicting the area’s extinct mammals, on view for the remainder of 2024.

We will be celebrating this milestone with Mi and hopefully YOU on Saturday, December 7 at 2pm.

Thank you to all who came out to Saturday’s glacier mosaic celebration! If you’re free tonight at 6, please consider joining us at Middletown’s City Hall for the ceremony honoring our Artistic Director Kate Ten Eyck with the 2024 Middletown Arts Advocacy Award, an award that she feels to be shared with the vast and wonderful community that has made this audacious public art initiative possible.

We are thrilled to finally be able to share the communally-constructed mosaic depicting glaciers. Designed by Kate Ten Eyck, this piece was brought to fruition by an enormous cross-section of people, including students from her Engaged Learning course (Community-Based Public Art) at Wesleyan, attendees of Wesleyan's Girls in Science camp (with Kat Owens as a guest educator), and over two dozen community volunteers who gathered for two fruitful workshops this Spring at the Free Center in Middletown (as depicted by this time-lapse video).

Join us Saturday, November 16 at 1pm in front of 428 Main St, downtown Middletown (adverse weather site: basement of Middlesex Music Academy), as we celebrate this latest exhibit. There will be remarks at 1:15 and the glacier mosaic will be on display all month.

Funding for this project has been provided by the Middletown Commission on the Arts and by the Connecticut State Legislature through funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, administered by the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts.

On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we affirm our gratitude to all those who contributed to our First Nations Honor Wall. Pictured here is the illustrious panel from the Artists for World Peace presentation that followed the celebration of this stunning mosaic on September 22. L-R: AfWP visionary and Honor Wall Lead Artist Wendy Black-Nasta, ceramic artist and Wangunk elder Gary O’Neil (Red Oak), Professor Kate Brunson, and Eastern Pequot Tribal Council Vice-Chairwoman Brenda Geer. Tomorrow! See y’all there!

Posted • Tomorrow is our day! We’re looking forward to sharing the Honor Wall for the First Nations of CT with all of you, and our amazing city of Middletown, CT.
Join us at 2:00 at 428 Main Street and at 3:15 for our Artists for World Peace presentation at deKoven House, 27 Washington St. Please reserve your seat for the 3:15 event. There are several remaining. Kate Brunson is bringing our molds and air-dry clay so that everyone can press in their own reproduction of the actual artifacts on our Honor Wall at the end of our presentation. I created reproductions in sterling and bronze that will be offered. Gary O’Neil will be setting up a table with his beautiful pottery that you can purchase at the event. See you tomorrow! ’Neil
