We have decided to postpone our first week of events indefinitely in order to redraft the underlying thinking behind Wit’s End. The philosophy of Wit’s End is that “this is what we would be doing anyway, might as well invite new people in.” Within the broader Wesleyan context, specifically the Reform ResLife movement, as well as mutual aid efforts for housing insecure students throughout the pandemic and recent hurricanes, it is irresponsible and harmful to run a program that has food and hospitality as it’s site of engagement without critically thinking about the politics of privilege at this University and in the very idea of food and eating itself. With this in mind, we are giving ourselves more time to craft a version of Wit’s End that will seek to extend an equitable invation to everyone at Wesleyan so that we may come together over food to discuss privilege, politics, and power instead of putting on a show of cooking as an exercise in privilege. While we do not assume that we will be able to “fix” everything wrong with social food systems, we do intend to enter into this project more equipped to sit in the messiness of critique rather than devise yet another “plan of action” that is really just an actionable way to avoid addressing the problem. We thank you for your patience and your support as we commit ourselves to this work of accountability.

Have you ever written a play? Write them all the time? Got halfway through one and never finished? This Year, Wit’s End will be hosting the Wesleyan Student Play Library, an open collection and celebration of student-written theater at whatever stage in its life.

And we want YOU to submit your play(s)!

Just email me at [email protected] with your play and your work will be part of a growing library celebrating student theater

The Collection will be held at Wit’s End, located at 214 High street, and is open to all students throughout the coming year.

FAQ:

Q: I have a.. Like.. a draft-ish thing, but it’s super not finished or anything?
A: We’d love to have it! The collection is meant as a pool to experience each others’ work, and that means the work. We’d love nothing more than to have a hundred half-finished pieces, and as you continue to edit your work, we’ll update our collection to the current version

Q: I’d love to add to the collection, but I feel weird about sharing my piece before I feel like it’s finished
A: As we said above, we love work-in-process, but we also understand that sharing your work can be scary! This semester, Wit’s end will be running a weekly workspace open for people to come work on whatever artistic endeavors they might want to, and to create a community which supports student work. If you’d like, come work on your piece with us until you’re ready to share it. We’d love to have you!

Q: What is “Wit’s End”?
A: https://laiaxc.com/eat

Q: Wow, that Wit’s End thing sounds cool! Can I get involved in any way?
A: Yes! Email me (Above) or Laia ([email protected]) and we’d love to talk :)

Q: What counts as a play?
A: Yes!

We look forward to hearing from you!!!
