Day 7 last day: Earl Chaney

Earl Chaney (born March 6, 1945), known as “Mr. Clown,” is an accomplished American circus clown, performer, and educator. A graduate of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, he performed with Ringling in the 1970s before going on to a long career dedicated to clowning. Through his performances, teaching, and work preserving the traditions of the art, Chaney has influenced generations of clowns and remains an important figure in modern American clowning.

Day 6:Felix Adler

Felix Adler (June 17, 1895 – February 1, 1960) was one of the most celebrated whiteface clowns in the history of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Known for his grotesque whiteface makeup, explosive energy, and fearless physical comedy, Adler entertained audiences for more than 30 years. Often called the “King of Clowns,” his larger-than-life performances and unforgettable character made him one of the greatest circus clowns of the 20th century.

Day 5: Otto Griebling

Otto Griebling (February 22, 1896 – February 19, 1972) was one of the most beloved hobo clowns in the history of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Known for his expressive face, gentle humor, and impeccable comic timing, he delighted audiences for more than 40 years. His warm, sympathetic character and natural performances made him one of the greatest circus clowns of all time, inspiring generations of performers who followed.

Day 4: Lou Jacobs

Lou Jacobs (January 1, 1903 – September 13, 1992) was one of the most beloved clowns in the history of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Performing with Ringling for more than 60 years, he became famous for his infectious smile, expressive comedy, and the iconic tiny clown car that delighted generations of circusgoers. His impact on American clowning was so great that his likeness appeared on a U.S. postage stamp, making him one of the few clowns to receive that honor.

Day 3: Emmett Kelly

Emmett Kelly (December 9, 1898 – March 28, 1979) was one of the most famous clowns in American history and the creator of the iconic hobo clown character, Weary Willie. Unlike the cheerful circus clowns of his era, Kelly’s sad, down-on-his-luck tramp resonated deeply with audiences, especially during the Great Depression. His heartfelt performances and expressive pantomime redefined character clowning, making Weary Willie one of the most beloved and influential clown characters of all time.

Day number 2: Peggy Williams

Peggy Williams made history as the first woman to graduate from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1970 and earn a performing contract with The Greatest Show on Earth. Her groundbreaking career helped pave the way for women in circus clowning. Beyond performing, she became Ringling’s first female performance director, mentoring future generations of circus artists and preserving the rich history and traditions of the American circus.
