Micanopy Florida is a scenic location for a fall arts and crafts festival. Micanopy is the town that time forgot. This quiet little town bustles with activity as the vendors pour into town and fill Cholokka Boulevard. Many local artists, crafters, and musicians participate in the festival, as well as other artists from across the southeast. The tradition and ever evolving quality of the show attra

cts a broad range of patrons. Along with the two hundred displays of arts and crafts there are many other attractions, including varied food booths. The main stage plays host to a variety of good time music throughout the festival and an old time auction of items donated by participating vendors on Saturday afternoon. While driving through downtown Micanopy yesterday, I stopped into Coffee n' Cream - Micanopy, Florida for some hand dipped ice cream. I spotted this “Micanopy: An Old Florida Coloring Book” by Bonita Dewiliby Ott for sale with information and pictures to color of the historic areas around town.

I know what I’ll be doing this weekend —- dreaming of a cool🤞🏼festival weekend and coloring the beautiful buildings and scenes that are the backdrop of our festival! I’ll be starting with Cholokka Boulevard… 🧡

You can pick one up in town at Coffee n’ Cream or for our friends further away, they are also available through Amazon.

We are a few weeks out from announcing our official T-shirt design for the 51st Annual Micanopy Fall Festival! 👕

This year’s design pays tribute to Mr. Brod Rivers, the artist behind our first festival’s t-shirt in 1974. Take a walk down memory lane with us as Mr. Rivers describes, in his own words, the origin of the first Micanopy Fall Festival and the inspiration behind the first shirt design, pictured below.

“My girlfriend, Marcia Woodside, was a student at the University of Florida. She was given an assignment to make a presentation for an event that could be implemented in a local town. We chose Micanopy for all the reasons that the many of you live there. Probably the most interesting facet of the whole presentation was the interest taken by the elders of the city. They quickly appreciated our presentation and agreed to try it out.

In regards to the artwork, we had a cost factor, eliminating multicolored T-shirts, and went with black on a golden rod. The image was to portray the background that we all live with the hanging moss and no modern technology was also a factor of the request. I did my best to capture that atmosphere that the locals wanted to convey. The fact that after all these years it grew organically from a small event to the large one that exist today.” 🌾
