The Dayton Christian Performing Arts Department has a rich theatrical heritage, and each year all high school students are invited to continue that tradition by auditioning for our fall and spring productions. We strive to select shows that will provide a variety of opportunities and experiences for our students and ones that will be engaging to our school family and to the surrounding community.

I am very excited about my role as DCHS Theatre Director! Actually, my love and appreciation for theatre was born at Dayton Christian High School in the 1970s thanks to some amazing teachers like John Anderson, Terry Chamberlain, Beth Staples French, Gus Dallas, and Bob Clements. It was then broadened through experiences in community, semi-professional and college productions. The craft of stage directing was learned at Wheaton College under the tutelage of Dr. M. James Young, and honed by working with high schools students for over six years. I have a background which includes professional acting, playwrighting, and directing at the college, high school and community theatre level. And believe it or not, I have worked in spaces much more challenging than the Cafetorium! I look forward to working with you to train up the next generation – and to build a program of real, engaging and excellent theatre on this campus. My philosophical approach will be simple :

1. Teach students what it means to be a Christian artist and to work in ensemble to give glory to God through our combined efforts. We call it a "5:16 Perspective" (see Matthew 5 : 14–16)

2. Encourage creativity and stretch each individual's natural ability – developing life-long skills that are relevant and universally applicable.

What an amazing way to close out the 2025-26 DCHS Theatre season!

Last night we were recognized at the Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards Showcase with 21 separate awards for our productions of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged" and "The Pirates of Penzance"! Forty-one schools from across the Miami Valley participate in the MVHSTA's, and Dayton Christian was one of eleven schools who received the top honor of Outstanding Production of a Musical. As a result, our "Pirates" cast was invited to perform a number from the show on the Schuster Center stage!

Michael Crum, who played the Pirate King and Thomas Jacobsen, who portrayed Major General Stanley also received Outstanding Performance awards and reprised their title songs on-stage. Our fall show, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare - Abridged" was also recognized with an Outstanding Production of a Play award. What a fantastic night for DC Theatre!

Congratulations to everyone who helped make both of these productions a success. We especially thank our Lord and Savior for shining His light through the excellent work of these students... Matthew 5: 14-16

AHOY! LOCAL DC ALUMNI and FORMER TEACHERS...

|Our DCHS Theatre department is offering all of you (and your spouse and parents), an opportunity for a FREE Sneak-Peek of our spring musical, "The Pirates of Penzance"!

WHEN: Wednesday, April 8th @ 7:00pm
WHERE: The DC Student Life Center @ 9391 Washington Church Rd., Miamisburg, OH
WHAT: Our final dress rehearsal / run-through of "Broadway's Most Frequent Musical", "The Pirates of Penzance".
ADMISSION: FREE!
WHY: For the fun of it, of course! You would surely benefit from a cost-friendly evening at the theatre with delightful music and family-friendly comedy. DCHS Theatre is excited to announce our 2026 spring musical - "The Pirates of Penzance"!

Launched in 1879 as a comic operetta by the celebrated geniuses of Sir Arthur Sullivan and Sir William Gilbert, this musical is fresh from a return to the Broadway stage in 2025. "Pirates" is rollicking good fun, with amazing music, and a witty and wonderful story. Truly, a swashbuckler's delight!

So, mark your calendars for April 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18, and plan to join us @ Dayton Christian High School Theatre this spring, for our presentation of Broadway's "most frequent" musical, "The Pirates of Penzance"!

NOTE: Please watch for information regarding the start of ticket sales, which will happen sometime in Mid-March. Reserved seats @ DCHS Theatre productions tend to sell-out quickly, so please monitor this site for additional information in the coming weeks!

"Shakespeare" Opening Night @ DCHS was a resounding success! Very proud of the work from our entire team - onstage, backstage, and in the tech booth... It truly takes a community to bring it all together, and we feel very blessed and grateful for the people that have participated and getting this show to the stage!
