A huge thank you to Melissa for joining us at the Miamisburg Rotary Club on June 10, 2026, to share the incredible history and ongoing community impact of the Miamisburg Plaza Theatre! It was a pleasure to learn more about this downtown gem.
Here are some of the highlights from her presentation:
- A Historic Legacy: The Plaza originally opened on Christmas Day in 1919 and has been a cornerstone of our community for over a century.
- Community-Driven Restoration: After closing in 1968 and serving as a western store, local residents worked tirelessly to restore the building, leading to its reopening on Christmas Day 2015.
- More Than Just Movies: The theatre has evolved into a true gathering place. From the Century Cinema history series to the Lauren Wilson Family Movie Series, there is something for everyone. They even host unique events like the Haunted Movie Club and the upcoming Unfinished Project Club.
- Volunteers are the Backbone: As a nonprofit, the Plaza relies heavily on volunteers to run concessions and keep the doors open. If you are looking for a way to give back, they have plenty of opportunities, including help with their popular family movie screenings! We are so fortunate to have the largest seating capacity theatre in Montgomery County right here in our backyard. Thanks again, Melissa, for all you and the team do to keep the arts alive in Miamisburg!
