“Another highlight was the painter Esaí Alfredo, who produced several stunning paintings in blue and red monochromes, which featured a couple entitled “Waiting for a shooting star”. This q***r nighttime series felt incredibly intimate and charged; the color palette shifted the mood of his painting [...]”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Esaí Alfredo’s The Necklace from 2026, presented by Spinello Projects out of Miami, moved in yet another direction, with photorealism carrying an almost devotional charge. The work’s majestic, ethereal color application gave realism a strange luminosity, reminding us that technical mastery need not be cold when animated by atmosphere and psychological depth. Photorealism, at its strongest, is not merely a demonstration of skill. It becomes a philosophical trapdoor. The viewer enters through recognition and then finds something more elusive waiting beneath the surface.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In Alfredo’s hands, reality appears heightened, almost consecrated. The image does not simply reproduce the visible world. It intensifies it. There is a hush in that kind of looking, a sense that the ordinary has been slowed down enough to become ceremonial. The necklace becomes more than adornment. It becomes a point of focus, a charged emblem of intimacy, identity, and attention [...]”

🗞️[OBSERVER] NADA New York Opens with Plenty of Potential
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Miami-based Spinello Projects presented a sentimental, hyperrealistic sequence of narrative-driven paintings by Puerto Rican artist Esai Alfredo, isolating delicate moments of human connection and emotional exchange against the infinity of the night horizon. Expanding on his ongoing exploration of memory, belonging and q***r identity, these atmospheric paintings were inspired in part by the closing scene of Wicked, in which two protagonists reflect on the lasting impact of their bond before parting. The series is also a poetic revisitation of the artist’s own experience of migration between Puerto Rico and the United States, which was shaped by the rhythms of connection and farewell, distance and displacement, as that of an entire generation that grew up within today’s global mobility. By the evening, the gallery had sold more than half the booth [...]”

🐚 Nina Surel’s commissioned work, The Multiverse is Singing Our Song, is now on view at the newly reopened Delano South Beach!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rooted in Florida’s ecological histories and shaped through richly textured stoneware, Surel’s sculptural practice explores transformation, myth, fertility, and feminine identity through surreal botanical and symbolic forms.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Originally opened in 1947, the iconic Delano returns following a six-year restoration led by Ennismore, with hotel’s inaugural art program curated by Nicola Green.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With special thanks to Delano South Beach and the team behind Nicola Green’s curatorial vision for their support and collaboration.
