Fantasy Fest Key West 👀👀 see you there!
Summer is gone and we are looking forward to October and all the special events it brings to our Island, and do we have quite the lineup on our corner.
Jumping right into the first weekend, we join the Moonstone Riders on a rock and roll journey through a swampy world of twanged out psychedelic funk and improvisational jams.
And then, we present to you The 11th Annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash and Reef Relief Benefit. Quite belated this year, we excitedly invite our community to join us for this annual event to celebrate the life of one of the greatest musicians of all time as well as raise awareness for our unique marine environment and to help raise money for Reef Relief’s education and conservation programs while enjoying a marathon Grateful Jam with The Happy Dog.
Next up is the return of Guavatron, from South Florida–they keep their roots of dance, rock, electronica and funk alive; expect smooth jams with hard-hitting peaks of musical ingenuity.
Before we have island-wide festivities, we bring two special nights of music just for our loyal parrot patrons… first up we welcome Dr. Bacon from Asheville, NC, for a night of funked up roots, rock n’ roll, and danceable music.
The following night we have three special sets with DJ Logic (yes) and Electric Blue Yonder. EBY’s intrepid troupe of traveling space explorers bring their meditative mashup of trippy folk rock to Soundcheck, followed by a collaborative set with DJ Logic, and finally a late night set where DJ Logic will be spinning live for your dancing pleasure. Be here!
Then suddenly, it’s Goombay Weekend!
Be here as Miami’s explosive, Grammy-nominated, 7-piece Latin/Funk Fusion band Xperimento hits the Parrot Stage for Goombay Weekend and for Key West’s wildly popular, local-centric, brain-eating extravaganza, The Zombie Bike Ride!
Be here on Sunday and follow the Zombies as The Zombie Bike Ride hits The Parrot for a Zombie Bike Ride After-Party. Make your Zombie Fest complete and “Dance With The Dead” as Xperimento again hits the the Parrot stage for a late night dance party.
Fantasy Fest Week at The Parrot begins in earnest with Tony Baltimore re-creating a Fab Four Show with his Beatle Band and a cry of “All You Need is Love”. Their past Beatle Tribute Shows had Parrot patrons swinging from the rafters as they danced, laughed, and sang-along to a set-list pulled from decades of Lennon-McCartny hits.
The following two nights, we host two pelvis-grinding nights of “Your Favorite Band!”, Siberian Surf-Rockers Igor and The Red Elvises, returning for two packed-to-the-rafters, back-to-back days and nights of their unique blend of Russian folk music, 50’s rockabilly, surf, reggae, and whatever else makes them happy!
Then, Thursday we host our Funk It Up! party with bass-driven R&B/Pop veteran and five-time grammy-winner Trae Pierce & The T-Stones. And don’t worry, they’ll be putting it into overdrive all weekend long, exploding onto our stage for infectious beats and can’t-stay-in-your-seat dance-moves on Friday and Saturday.
And, remember, on Friday the fun doesn’t end just because the marching does! Join us following the Old Town Masquerade March and then join us Saturday night to grab a front row seat as the Fantasy Parade rolls right past our corner—best of both worlds!
Coming out of the Fantasy Fest Glitter Fog and leading into HalloWeekend, Augusta, Georgia-based Funk You brings the party with their dance-driven, horn-heavy grooves to close out the month in costume.
And, no October would be complete without mentioning what is one of The Green Parrot’s Crown Jewels, as well as one of our island city’s longest-running traditions, The Green Parrot Annual Halloween Costume Party, this year celebrating our 52nd Annual (we think!).
For those keeping score at home and wondering why we always add (we think!) after each mention of our annual Halloween party, let me explain: I know for sure that I first arrived in Key West right before Halloween in 1974, so we’ve been using that as our yardstick for how many parties we have had. In other words, we know we had a party in 1974, but we don’t know if there was a Parrot Halloween party in the years before that, hence the (we think!).
A couple more special callouts this month: The last Sunday of the month we feature The Happy Dog for TWO sets at night. And a couple days later we have two nights of Waynard Scheller’s Rainbow Full of Sound, one of the East Coast’s premiere Grateful Dead tribute bands.
Sprinkle in some local-talent like Good Trees River Band, Leap Of Faith, Jess & Jill & Chase, Cayman & Co., Luffkid & Friendz, and Sam Carlson Sound, toss in some bone fide cultural events like Green Parrot Ukulele Night, Key West’s only Uke-powered Jam session, and 100%-for-Charity Monday Night Bingo and you have some cool, autumn action that makes you glad to be here, visitors and locals alike.
All this and more, just for the price of a b**r and a smile, never a cover at The Green Parrot Bar, Your Southernmost Center for Fantasy Culture of All Kinds, while not for the cultural elite, certainly for the culturally deprived.
