IS Projects is South Florida's access to traditional printmaking and book arts knowledge, training an

IS Projects, located in Miami, is an all inclusive print and book arts studio providing the facilities and assistance to make books and fine art prints from start to finish. The facilities include letterpress, book binding, and screen printing equipment and are accessible through workshops, affordable hourly rentals, and membership. IS Projects provides workshops for the public as well as private

assistance to artists working on specific projects. The studio also houses Nocturnal Press, a fine press and bindery. IS Projects provides a supportive, communal working environment for artists looking to make fine art prints, letterpress prints, zines, and books.

Check out these juicy details from works that are going up on our projects wall this week! We're very pleased to present a selection of works by residents and members of IS Projects: Charlisa Montrope, Johanna Boccardo, and Carol Todaro. We will host a reception this Sunday the 27th from 4-6pm and the exhibition will be up through the end of January. We'd love to see you before things get too hectic with Art Week and we promise fantastic local print based art, good vibes, natty wine, enthusiastic studio tours, and photogenic machinery to all who pop in on Sunday 🌟
On that note: please keep in mind that the studio will be open via appointment only from Nov 28 - Dec 3. We would love to see you during art week so if you'd like to stop by please send us an email and we'll make sure it happens ✌️

Are you interested in trying out a positive line, direct drawing, ever variable, printmaking technique? Join this Saturday (tomorrow!) from 10am to 12pm for this month's print club demo: drypoint!
This technique is known for producing unique, soft lines and the plates can be wiped intuitively to create endless variations.
The demo is followed up by an open studio session where you can test different inks, refine your image, make multiples, and be around like mixed creatives all working toward the same goal: getting inky 😍

Whether you’re looking to try it for the first time or hone your skills, you do not want to miss this weekend’s workshop, Accordion Three Ways: The Fantatic Elastic Folded Spine. The two-day workshop will be lead by and – both incredible Miami-based book artists with an unbelievable wealth of knowledge about how to make artists’ books. Carol and Lisa have just completed our Skill Exchange Residency and chose to collaborate on planning and teaching this workshop, so participants are getting double the wisdom. There is something for everyone in the world of printmaking, and we have a very special workshop this coming weekend for those of you who are drawn to the experimental, the tactile, and the unconventional. From 10AM to 4PM on Sunday, October 16, will be guiding a deep dive into making collagraphs! Collagraph plates can be made from found materials and conventional art supplies, can be inked in different ways, and typically yield small or varied editions. They are the perfect printmaking technique for anyone who wants to think out of the box, and Sammi is the perfect guide. Calendar alert! 🗓🗓🗓October 15th is coming up fast, and it’s the deadline for applications for upcoming winder sessions (Dec 5 - Feb 28) of both our Keyholder Residency and our internship! Have you sent your app in yet?

The Keyholder Residency allows knowledgeable print and book artists to have access to our common studio space in exchange for four hours of work per week.

The Winter Session of our internship is open to artists of all levels of experience. Interns will learn and practice lots of the essential skills required to successfully execute high-quality book and print projects and are paid for their work.

We're back from Italia!
Thank you so much for your patience and suggestions as we took some time to fill our eyes with art, both new and old, in a country that has played a monumental role in the foundation of what makes our business possible today (papermaking, painting, type design, far too many influences to list here). Thank you Italy, for recharging our hearts and filling us with new ideas.
Today is the 8 year anniversary of IS Projects' opening and while we had hoped to do some kind of low key festivity, Ian has encouraged us to accept the Italy trip as sufficient celebration for now.
We'll be working from home tomorrow to avoid driving around in a tropical storm but hope to be back in the studio normal hours Thursday and Friday ☔️

Big news! The IS Projects staff is going on vacation, and while the studio will be closed to the public from September 13th to the 23rd, we have a plan to keep the presses busy and the lights on while we’re gone! Allow us to introduce our first Artists-in-Residence in our Miami space: and
As a part of our Skill Exchange Residency, Carol and Lisa will be making their own work at the studio over the course of the next two weeks. They have some really exciting ideas for projects and experiments which make the most of what the studio has to offer. We love these artists and can’t wait to see what they do with this time. If you’re as excited as we are about their work and wisdom, keep an eye out for their October weekend workshop. They’ll be co-teaching an accordion binding workshop.

That said, please save your next visit to IS Projects for when we return. We’ll be back in the studio on September 27th. Until then!

Do you ever dream about holding the keys to a studio like this? Book artists and printmakers, we have an opportunity for you! We are offering a special session of our 12 week Keyholder Residency from October to February. The deadline to apply is August 21st. Keyholder Residents receive a key that comes with 24/7 access to the studio and permission to use any equipment that they can safely operate. In exchange, Keyholders commit to 4 hours of work at the studio per week, to be scheduled in collaboration with IS Projects staff. Think this is the right fit for you? Do you want to be among the first people to use our new Miami screen printing facilities? 😍 There a couple of seats left in our print club demo this Saturday where you can try your hand at screen printing on paper and try out one of our favorite screen printing techniques, the watercolor monotype. Then, hang out for the rest of the day and make more art during the open studio session. The photo book is one of many very exciting ways to share a thoughtfully organized series of photographs with an audience. The task of putting a photo book together, however, can be seriously daunting! This is why our guest instructor and amazing artist Gabriela Gamboa is here to help you. Participants in the upcoming workshop, Mapping Out a Photo Book, will receive expert guidance on finalizing a series of photographs, sequencing them, optionally weaving them together with a text, and then figuring out how to get them to live in the form of a book. Everyone will leave having produced a laser jet printed mock-up of their own photo book.

Let's talk about ink, paper, editioning, and all the other very exciting choices you made when you were bringing your favorite print project to life during our very first IS Projects Shop Talk. Shop Talk is a chance to meet other printmakers, show off your favorite prints, and discuss all the dirty technical details while enjoying light snacks and refreshments.
