What changes when the name changes?
Everything and nothing.
On this Mother’s Day I’m honoring the legacy I was born into & the one I’m continuing to shape.
The gallery was founded in Haiti in 1956 by my grandparents Fréda & Roger, a bold and visionary act in its time. Under Léna, Toni & Michel, Pascale, it transformed again adapting to new generations, new challenges & new ways of seeing.
And now, it’s my turn.
The model has to evolve. The art world has changed; so has the way we connect with collectors, artists & ideas.
After years of building to what it is today it will now operate under its new name from this day forward.
This name change isn’t a break. It’s a continuation.
After years operating as a gallerist, I’m reintroducing myself also, as a nomadic curator, visual storyteller and collector’s ally.
This is not a departure from what you’ve come to expect. I will continue to:
• Highlight Haitian artists; my lifelong expertise and deepest passion
• Offer art advising & collection management
• Showcase & sell for artists & collectors
• Website will continue to exist at www.galeriemonnin.com
The rebrand to gives me space to:
✧ Curate beyond walls
✧ Feature artworks not for sale from private collections found in our archives and museums worldwide
✧ Share my own photography and stories
✧ Introduce artists, moments and inspiration found in nature and in motion whether in Haiti or beyond
I remain grounded in our shared legacy but I am also reaching forward bridging memory and innovation through Atelier Monnin crowned by the spirit of my grandmother Fréda who never called herself an artist but was exactly that: a mother, an architect, a muralist, a writer, a gardener, an animal rescuer, hostess with the mostess, a painter, a storyteller and a collector of objects and beauty…aka an artiste 🧑🎨
I carry the legacy of those who came before me and like them I believe in adaptation, in intuition and in courage.
Thank you for staying with me as I grow into something both new and rooted.
Let’s keep evolving.
Happy Mother’s day to the women who built the foundations we now walk on, in life & in art.
💚
Gaël
