After last year’s South Florida premiere of Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents companies around the US are still keeping the Gents a relevant theatrical experience. I wish I were in LA for this reading featuring some talented actors with a sensational director.

Congrats to The Mighty Gents playwright, Richard Wesley on receiving the Audelco Award. Here is what Mr. Wesley posted: “Monday night, I had the honor of receiving the AUDELCO AWARD for Best Playwright for my play, AUTUMN, produced by the Billie Holiday Theater. The play also received an Audelco as Dramatic Production of the Year, Audelcos also went to my Best Director, Walter Dallas, Best Actor, Jerome Preston Bates, Best Supporting Actor, Count Stovall and Best Supporting Actress, Pauletta Pearson Washington. I congratulate them and thank the rest of the Cast: Michael Chenevert, LeKethia Dalcoe, Terria Joseph and Brent Langdon, and the Crew, the staff of the Billie Holiday Theater and Exec VP, Indira Etwaroo. The accolades I enjoyed tonight would not have been possible without all of them. Thanks so much. Welp, time to write the next play.”

Playwright Richard Wesley plays are being recognized highly! The AHCAC recently closed a successful run of Mr. Wesley’s play The Mighty Gents, he has gotten nominated for Audelco Award for his play Autumn and now his play, The Talented Tenth received a star-studded cast reading. Wow! I look forward to reading The Talented Tenth and Autumn with dreams of producing to audiences in South Florida. Here is what Mr. Wesley shared: “As part of the Opening Weekend of the WACO Theater, in North Hollywood, California, co-founders Richard Lawson and Tina Knowles Lawson included a reading of my play, THE TALENTED TENTH, with an all-star cast of actors, pictured here. Needless to say, there efforts were a rousing success, with a standing ovation at the end, and kudos from, among others, Magic Johnson, Jay Z and Beyonce. Thank you, Bill Bellamy, James Dirden, Nija Okoro, Nicole Ari Parker, Sean Patrick Thomas, Glynn Turman, Vanessa Williams. And thank you, Ricky Lawson, tina Knowles Lawson and all the Crew and Staff of the WACO Theater. Best wishes for a great future.”

Here is what David posted: “Went with Tommy O Brien to see a great play the mighty Gents at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. SpotLight On The Cast and Crew of The Mighty Gents - Actor Ray Lockhart.

Ray is the widely known as the On-Air Radio Personality for his own radio show on WMBM AM on Saturdays, but he has been a South Florida actor for many years. Ray’s work on the screen and in the theater has been enjoyable to watch. Ray has performed in numerous plays at the M Ensemble including Piano Lesson and last season’s smash, Kings of Harlem. He appeared in AAPACT’s Riff Raff written by Laurence Fishbourne. Ray’s work on the Wendell A. Narcisse Performing Arts Theater’s stage has been memorable in his role as Rueben in Charles Fuller’s Zooman and the Sign and now as Father in Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents. Theater audiences were moved by Pedro Louis work in Incidents of a Slave Girl at the Little Haiti Cultural Arts Center. In addition to Pedro’s modeling skills his accomplishment as an incredible actor is evident in his Wendell A. Narcisse Performing Arts Theater debut in Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents in the role of Essex Braxton. Pedro’s delivery of Wesley’s writing is smooth, elegant, majestic and musical. The Mighty Gents at the Wendell A.
