Durban Segnini Gallery

Durban Segnini Gallery was founded in 1970 in Venezuela. In 1994 it opened its doors in Miami.

For nearly six decades, the Gallery has promoted Latin American art and culture, specializing in Modern and Contemporary Latin American art.

This year, Cesar Paternosto received the Doctor Honoris Causa from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, including “Investigaciones tectónicas,” a new site-specific installation. In Buenos Aires this August, the MACBA opened “César Paternosto. La imaginación geométrica” curated by Natalia Giglietti. Paternosto’s continued recognizion with his work Duino (1966) included in MoMA’s exhibition Hard Edges, Expanded Fields. Collection 1950s–1970s.

For Durban Segnini Gallery we feel this is a long due recognition and our support for over three decades of studio visits, exhibitions, conversations, and a conviction we have carried throughout that his redefinition of the canvas as object belongs among the most significant contributions to Latin American abstraction.

Felicidades Maestro. All these years in and the work only grows more essential.

A day like today, César Segnini the visionary founder of Durban Segnini Gallery was born in 1938, establishing the gallery in Caracas in 1970. For over five decades, his dedication has fostered a space where modern and contemporary and Latin American art flourish, bridging artists, collectors, and audiences worldwide. Today, we remember and celebrate him on his birthday.

Durante más de cinco décadas, su dedicación ha fomentado un espacio donde el arte moderno y contemporáneo latinoamericano florece, uniendo a artistas, coleccionistas y públicos de todo el mundo. Ines Silva: Rhythms of Geometry

Ines Silva’s Plexiglas works stand out for their airy, luminous, and profoundly musical character. Reliefs, columns, folding screens, and suspended structures create a universe in which transparency, movement, and color transform geometry into a sensory experience. Trained as an architect, Ines Silva constructs each of her works with great precision, drawing on mathematical schemes in which the golden ratio, the Fibonacci spiral, and Le Corbusier’s Modulor play a structuring role. Far from serving as a theoretical demonstration, these principles ensure a balance of form and establish a perceptible harmony between the work, its surrounding space, and the viewer’s body.

A belated birthday tribute to Fernando de Szyszlo (July 5, 1925 – 2017). Born in Lima, Szyszlo was a pioneering figure in Latin American abstract art, known for his evocative fusion of surrealism and Andean cultural heritage. His work rich in symbolism, muted palettes, and shifting light drew deeply from Peru’s pre-Columbian past, including the textiles of Chancay and Paracas, as well as the myths, memories, and landscapes of the Americas. Szyszlo believed in art as a way of expressing truths from the unconscious universal emotions and ancestral visions rendered in abstract form.

With deep sorrow we bid farewell to Julio Le Parc (1928–2026) one of the defining artists of the twentieth century and a spirit of unrelenting conscience.

A founding member of G.R.A.V. and recipient of the Grand Prize for Painting at the 33rd Venice Biennale (1966), Le Parc dedicated his life to transforming the relationship between art and the viewer

We were honored to present his work in Caracas at Galería Durbán in 1979 — Julio Le Parc / Modulaciones — presenting a constellation of works with a catalogue text by Antonio Bonet Correa. The exhibition traveled to Barquisimeto and Maracaibo, the artist present at both inaugurations. An exhibition that still resonates in our memory and in the history of this gallery.

We extend our most heartfelt condolences to his family, his companions, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him and we carry with us the certainty that his work, luminous and restless, will continue to move through the world long after us.
