[Miami Beach]

Object/Subject was a one-day pop-up event celebrating the intersection of design and fine art through a curated collection of one-of-a-kind artist-intervened rings.
Hosted at The Shop at The Bass,  the event invited visitors to explore unique works created by invited artists, ranging from wearable pieces to small collectible artworks. Each ring serves as an individual expression of artistic experimentation, blurring the boundaries between jewelry, design object, and fine art.

LIGHT AS AIR: The Buoyant Sculptures of Mariko Kusumoto

📅 Until April 5, 2026
📍 The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

This special exhibition celebrates the sustained devotion to traditional craft as interpreted by the innovative contemporary artist, Mariko Kusumoto. The daughter of a Buddhist priest, Kusumoto grew up in a 400-year old temple in Japan. The beauty of the landscape and the textures of the aging temple always intrigued the artist. She studied painting and printmaking at Musashino Art College in Tokyo and at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After several years of working in metal sculpture, Kusumoto began to experiment with tsumami zaiku, the ancient art of folding and pinching fabric. Mariko Kusumoto’s fiber creations are inspired by a range of phenomena, from organic to man-made. Many of the diaphanous forms seem to be floating in water, eliciting images of a lush aquatic garden. In Light as Air, Kusumoto will expand the scale of her transparent sculptural forms to create a unique, on-site installation that will meander and float into all dimensions of the gallery space.

Melvin Edwards’ Retrospective

📍 Palais de Tokyo, Paris

📅 until 02/15/2026

As part of the carte blanche invitation, the Palais de Tokyo is presenting a major retrospective dedicated to sculptor Melvin Edwards-an influential figure in the history of contemporary American art.
His abstract sculptures act as portals linking the past and present of the Black Atlantic. Born in Houston in 1937, Melvin Edwards now lives and works between Baltimore and New York in the United States, and Dakar in Senegal. This exhibition covers sixty years of his practice which has been shaped by his many travels, friendships, engagements and collaborations.

In the context of the Civil Rights Movement and racial segregation that marked the beginnings of his practice, the use of these materials questions both the history of post-slavery violence in America and the cultural history of Black resistance. In his own words: « The way I use art as life to transcend the confines of a whole set of classifications is a critical undertaking at this point in history, because all systems have proven inadequate. »
Deeply infused with poetry and jazz music, Melvin Edwards’ work reflects his friendships with Francophone writers such as Léon-Gontran Damas (1912-1978), whom he met in New York in 1969, and Édouard Glissant (1928-2011), whom he met in Paris in the early 1980s.

Still some time to enjoy the exhibition !

coming forth by day by artist Woody de Othello
📍 PAMM
📅 until June 28, 2026

Miami-born artist Woody De Othello presents coming forth by day, a new series of ceramic and wood sculptures, tiled wall works, and a large-scale bronze that explore the primordial relationship between body, earth, and spirit. The immersive installation will feature grounding natural materials such as clay-painted walls and subtle herbal scents.

As Othello’s first solo museum exhibition in Miami, coming forth by day reflects his deep connection to the city and his ongoing exploration of his ancestral heritage. Through material experimentation and sculptural gesture, the exhibition considers how objects carry history, absorb meaning, and serve as vessels for both spiritual and emotional experience.

The Garden
Solo exhibition by artist Hiba Schahbaz

📍 MOCA North Miami
📅 until March 16, 2026

Spanning over fifteen years, Hiba Schahbaz: The Garden is the first major retrospective of Pakistani-American artist Hiba Schahbaz. The exhibition brings together motifs that recur throughout Schahbaz’s visual lexicon: global allegory, a direct feminist gaze, and fantastical beings that traverse elemental realms of earth, fire, wind, sky, and sea, alongside human architectural interventions. Collectively, this selection of paintings forms an environment that invites viewers into the artist’s expansive, imagined worlds.

Born in Karachi and trained in Lahore, Schahbaz studied Indo-Persian miniature painting, a centuries-old discipline marked by precision, ornamentation, and narrative depth. This foundation continues to inform her practice, as she reimagines aesthetic and cultural inheritances through a contemporary, feminist lens.
