While millions of Cubans endure shortages, blackouts, and a deep economic crisis, some relatives of former regime officials have been able to build high-end private businesses and maintain active international mobility.
Martí Noticias has revealed that Cristina Lage Codorniú, daughter of former Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage, and her husband were notified by the U.S. Embassy in Havana that their multiple-entry visas had been revoked.
The couple is listed among the owners of a chain of luxury restaurants in Havana, raising ongoing questions about the origins, scope, and transparency of fortunes linked to relatives of Cuba’s political elite.
The measure comes amid growing scrutiny from Washington toward members of the Cuban regime’s political and economic apparatus and their family members.
