We're proud to announce that the 11th Screening the Holocaust Series opens with a special presentation of HONORABLE MR. MORGENTHAU, winner of the MJFF 2026 Kadima Jury Prize, on Thursday, September 3 at 7:30pm at the new Holocaust Education Center at Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach. For this special evening, director Hilan Warshaw will join us in person to introduce the film and take part in an extended conversation with the audience following the screening.

About HONORABLE MR. MORGENTHAU:
A powerful and timely exploration of bigotry, loyalty, and moral courage, Honorable Mr. Morgenthau reveals the untold story of Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau Jr., the only Jewish member of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Cabinet, and his courageous effort to confront America’s failure to respond to the plight of European Jews. As evidence of N**i atrocities mounted, Morgenthau overcame political caution and his own reluctance to speak out, ultimately helping establish the War Refugee Board, which saved tens of thousands of lives.

Its screening at our Miami Jewish Film Festival helped launch the film onto festivals including Toronto and San Francisco, along with invitations from many more festivals around the world. Not a bad journey for a film that first wowed Miami audiences!

About THE CHESS PLAYER:
Based on an extraordinary true story, The Chess Player follows Diego Padilla, the 1934 Spanish Chess Champion, whose life takes a dramatic turn when he falls in love with Marianne, a French journalist. As the Spanish Civil War erupts, the couple flees to France in search of safety. But when the N**is occupy Paris, Diego is falsely accused of espionage and imprisoned in an SS facility. Facing unimaginable danger, he discovers that the one thing that may save his life is the very passion that made him a champion: chess.

We’re still smiling as we look back on the North American Theatrical Premiere of Academy Award-winning director Juan José Campanella’s STRANGERS IN THE PARK—a beautiful celebration of friendship, compassion, and the extraordinary goodness that can be found in everyday strangers.

It was a privilege to welcome Argentine Consul General Marcelo Fabián Gilardoni, Spanish Consul General Belén Alfaro Hernández, Juan José Campanella’s family, and more than 150 South Florida film lovers for an unforgettable evening of cinema and community.

Our heartfelt thanks to our partners at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC, the Consulate General of Argentina in Miami, the Consulate General of Spain in Miami, Netflix, and, of course, Juan José Campanella for helping bring this special event to our community.

This was a night that reminded us why we gather—to laugh, to reflect, to connect, and to celebrate the stories that bring us closer together.

The Miami Jewish Film Festival extends its deepest condolences to Sam Neill's family and all who were touched by his life and career. A towering presence in world cinema, he will forever be remembered for his unforgettable performances—most notably in Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK—as well as his generosity in championing emerging filmmakers and bold new voices in cinema.
