COMING SOON | ELIAS CRESPIN: SUSPENDED GEOMETRIES

Ascaso Gallery is proud to announce Suspended Geometries, the first solo exhibition by Elias Crespin at the gallery, opening November 30 during Miami Art Week.

Occupying both exhibition spaces, the show will feature a selection of Crespin’s electrokinetic sculptures, including new works created for the exhibition. Suspended from nearly invisible threads, his geometric elements continuously transform through precisely programmed sequences, exploring movement, time, technology, and perception.

Born in Caracas and based in Paris, Crespin works at the intersection of art, mathematics, and technology. In 2020, the Musée du Louvre inaugurated his monumental permanent installation L’Onde du Midi.

Presented in collaboration with Solita Cohen, with a text by Isabela Villanueva.

Oswaldo Vigas
De la serie Pont L’Evêque II, 2002
Oil on canvas
120 × 120 cm | 47.24 × 47.24 in.

Painted in 2002, this work belongs to Vigas’s mature period, when the artist revisited his distinctive vocabulary of anthropomorphic forms with renewed freedom and intensity. Bold black contours structure the composition, while vibrant accents of blue, green, red, and violet emerge against a muted gray ground.

The work reflects Vigas’s enduring dialogue between abstraction and figuration, bringing together modernist construction with the ancestral and mythological imagery central to his artistic language.

De la serie Pont L’Evêque II, 2002
Óleo sobre tela
120 × 120 cm | 47.24 × 47.24 in.

A closer look at Historias Cotidianas by Uruguayan master Ignacio Iturria.

Across the façade, windows become small stages where fragments of everyday life unfold. Solitary figures, encounters, conversations, and quiet moments emerge from Iturria’s richly textured surface, inviting us to move from the whole composition into the intimate stories hidden within it.

With his distinctive pictorial language, Iturria transforms an ordinary building into a world of its own one populated by characters whose lives we can glimpse, but never fully know.

Arman in his studio, working on his celebrated Starry Night series — a homage to Vincent van Gogh’s iconic masterpiece.

Beginning in the early 1990s, Arman returned to one of the paintings that had fascinated him since his youth: Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. Rather than simply reinterpret the image, Arman approached it through his own artistic language of accumulation, transforming the very tools of painting — brushes, acrylic and traces of color — into the work itself.

In these compositions, the paintbrush becomes both instrument and subject. Embedded across the surface, the brushes preserve the physical gesture of painting while recreating the swirling movement and extraordinary energy of Van Gogh’s night sky.

The resulting Starry Night series became a remarkable encounter between two distinct artistic languages: Van Gogh’s expressive brushwork and Arman’s radical accumulation of objects.

Throwback | Caracas, 2011

In 2011, Galería de Arte Ascaso in Caracas presented “Los Olivos,” a major exhibition by Venezuelan master Alirio Palacios, transforming the gallery into an extraordinary sculptural landscape inhabited by monumental olive trees and his emblematic horses.

Throughout the exhibition, Palacios’ spirited steeds appeared among imposing metal trees—sculptures forged, shaped and intervened by the artist—creating an environment where nature, movement and the figurative world that characterized his work came together.

As described at the time: “These he shelters under a large olive grove, in the shadow of portentous metal structures turned and intervened, loaded with that mysterious world that accompanies his stroke and action.”

A look back at Los Olivos, an important chapter in our long history with Alirio Palacios and his extraordinary sculptural universe.

Víctor Valera (1927–2013) was a key figure in the development of modern Venezuelan art. Born in Maracaibo, Valera continued his artistic formation in Paris in the early 1950s, where he frequented the studios of Jean Dewasne and Victor Vasarely and worked with Fernand Léger. His encounter with European geometric abstraction became an important foundation for a career that would continuously move between painting, sculpture, color, and space.

In Zulia Wayúu (2011), one of Valera’s large-scale compositions, geometry unfolds through an energetic arrangement of angular forms and contrasting fields of yellow, blue, green, black, and white. The work creates a powerful visual rhythm in which color and form seem to expand beyond the surface.

Created late in his career, the work resonates with ideas that Valera explored throughout his life: geometry, abstraction, movement, color, and the relationship between form and space.

THROWBACK | One year ago — Enredaderas in Four Stages

A look back at Enredaderas in Four Stages, Arturo Correa’s 2025 solo exhibition at Ascaso Gallery, Miami.

Spanning twenty years of the artist’s Enredaderas series, from 2005 to 2025, the exhibition traced the transformation of a visual language continuously shaped by memory, experience, and the passage of time. What began as dense, organic and intertwined forms gradually evolved into increasingly defined, graphic compositions—lines and shapes that expand across the canvas like pathways, maps, and visual labyrinths.

These installation views and selected works revisit different moments within that evolution, revealing how the same underlying idea has continued to transform while remaining unmistakably Correa.

THROWBACK | Hace un año — Enredaderas in Four Stages
