what an honour to do flowers for the St David’s Day brunch at in Santa Monica this weekend to celebrate Wales’ national day🫶🏼🤍 mae fy nghalon yn llawn iawn ar hyn o bryd- cymru am byth!! i feel so so proud to be Welsh 🏴
For the brunch I made 4 different arrangements that together would tell the story of our nation- origin, land, industry and culture- but would also tell their own story as individual arrangements.
Wales is a land shaped by story, with myth and identity are woven together like Celtic knots, continuous and unbroken. The first arrangement draws inspiration from Blodeuwedd- a woman formed from flowers and turned into an owl- and embodies the deep connection between nature and myth in Welsh tradition.
From the mountains of Eryri to the dramatic coastline of Pembrokeshire, Wales is defined by elemental beauty. Wind, stone, and sea shape both the landscape and the people. I wanted my second arrangement to reflect the wild, enduring spirit of my homeland and also to pay homage to where I grew up.
Wales’ industrial heritage- from slate quarries to steelworks- helped shape modern Britain and beyond. Built on hard work, skill, and innovation, this legacy continues to power Wales’ global presence today. Made in a steel bowl and featuring slate and coal elements, my third areangement reflects the history, strength and craftsmanship at the nation’s core.
Inspired by the traditional Welsh song Ar Hyd y Nos- “All Through the Night”- the last arrangement reflects Wales’ enduring love of music and poetry. The stars reference the lullaby’s imagery of protection and peace beneath the night sky. In Wales, song is both heritage and heartbeat.
bois bach!! what a weekend. more updates coming soon🏴🤍🫶🏼
