A night to remember! ✦

On September 23rd, CLAUG Creative Studio welcomed Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, County Commissioners Oliver Gilbert and Keon Hardemon, and State Representative Ashley Gantt for the closing celebration of Blackquetry, the solo exhibition by Milton Mizell.

In a deeply moving moment, Mayor Levine Cava presented Milton Mizell and Carlos Andrade with an official recognition on behalf of the Miami-Dade 250 Advisory Committee and the residents of Miami-Dade County; honoring the power of art to celebrate identity, community, and the culture that makes Miami home.

Thank you to everyone who was part of this journey.
Blackquetry has been more than an exhibition. It has been a statement and its on view until Wednesday, September 30th.

The Final Event of Blackquetry ✨

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23rd, CLAUG Creative Studio hosts the closing mayoral event for Blackquetry, the solo exhibition by Miami artist Milton Mizell.

An evening with Miami’s elected officials, friends of the studio, and the work that has moved so many over the past weeks.

The night will include remarks from Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, a video presentation by Milton Mizell himself, and the opportunity to spend one last evening with this extraordinary body of marquetry work before the exhibition concludes.

It takes a moment to settle into stillness in this portrait.
And then it doesn’t let you go.

Adisa Talib aka Gorgeous Gucci is Milton Mizell at his most contemporary. A bucket hat rendered in camouflage wood grain, loc’d hair falling at the jaw, a grey jacket built from bleached and dyed veneers (the details are so precise you forget, again, that this is wood, that there is no paint here).

A very special event on Wednesday, September 23rd!

We are honored to welcome Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, County Commissioners Oliver Gilbert and Keon Hardemon, and State Representative Ashley Gantt for a special evening celebrating Milton Mizell and Blackquetry.

This is more than an art event. It is a recognition of what Milton’s work represents; for Miami, for the Black community, and for the power of craft as a form of storytelling.

Memories of a wonderful evening. ✨

We are so proud to have given a home to these extraordinary pieces and to have worked alongside Milton Mizell and his incredible family throughout this journey.

A quick note on our schedule this week: Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th we are open by appointment only.

Starting next week we return to our regular hours:
Tuesday through Saturday, 12PM to 6PM.

Blackquetry remains on view through September 30th.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

Congratulations, Milton. ✨

Blackquetry was everything we hoped it would be, and more.

Three evenings, a room full of people who felt it, and work that stopped everyone in their tracks. We are so proud to be part of your journey and so excited for everything still ahead.

Thank you to every single person who came out and made these events what they were. And to the Mizell family and friends: your warmth, your joy, and your unwavering support throughout all of this meant everything. You are the heart behind this exhibition.

We can’t wait to see you all again soon.
