THAT WAS WAY TOO CLOSE 😳

This humpback literally used our boat as a sidewalk.
One inch closer and it would have touched the hull.

Meet the real-life Sea Pig 🐷🌊

This is Scotoplanes, a squishy deep-sea sea cucumber that walks on the abyssal plains 3,900 to 16,400 feet deep using hydraulic legs. It sifts mud for food and even shelters baby king crabs under its body.

And yes β€” in 2024 scientists discovered a hot-pink one and literally named it the Barbie Pig.

Meet the ultimate ghost of the deep sea! πŸ‘»πŸŒŠ

This stunning infographic highlights the Gossamer Worm (Tomopteris), a truly ethereal creature drifting thousands of feet down in the ocean’s dark midwater.

This is NOT a jellyfish. It's thousands of animals acting as ONE. 😳πŸ”₯

Meet the Pyrosome β€” Greek for "fire body." It's a free-floating colony of thousands of clones called zooids living in a single gelatinous tube. It can be less than an inch to over 60 feet long, glows blue-green in waves when touched, and is one of the most efficient filter feeders in the ocean.

Touch one tiny zooid, and light ripples through the entire colony like a runway.

Everyone told us you never touch the whales. They come to YOU.

We were floating, engine off, open ocean. Then this shadow... massive, slow, coming straight for the boat.

It stopped. Right at the rail. Looked at us.

My hand was shaking when I reached. At 0:06 it exhaled right in our faces and STILL stayed.

That smile in photo 4? That's not posing. That's pure, unfiltered awe.

Nature doesn't owe us moments like this. We just get lucky.
