Here goes my first posting on this site...Let me start by saying the Carnival De La Vega is one of the most exciting & hardest shoots I've ever done. I've been working with Nat Geo's photographer, Raul Touzon, for the past week shooting the different festivals in the DR & even participating in a 114 mile, 4x4 race through the interior of the island. For those who don't know, the Carnival is comprised of over 105 different groups, being the most important, Las Fieras & Los Broncos. Each group represents through costumes different forms of "diablos". These Diablos roam the streets hitting people with bejigas, which is basically a ball made from the stomach of cows bound together into a ball. These bejigasos hurt! In my case, I made the mistake of leaving a lens cap in my back pocket, which became a 77mm circular bruise on my butt! Be careful & watch your back while you're there. Aside from that, it is a spectacular event & tons of fun. Enjoy!
