Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and remains the longest-running African American holiday.
This year, The Juneteenth Experience takes inspiration from Langston Hughes’ poem I, Too, written in response to the racism and segregation of the early 20th century. The poem follows a Black man who is denied a seat at the table, yet confidently asserts that he, too, is America, and that the beauty, strength, and contributions of Black people will one day be acknowledged and can no longer be overlooked.
The Juneteenth Experience stands as both a celebration and a testament to Black South Florida history, culture, and identity. Through music, dance, and spoken word, the event creates space for reflection, remembrance, and community.
As the flagship celebration of Hued Songs, a performing arts organization dedicated to exploring and amplifying Black history, culture, and identity through performance, the event continues a mission of preserving stories, fostering dialogue, and creating meaningful cultural experiences.
Presented by Rhythm Foundation and Hued Songs as part of Miami Beach Arts in the Parks. Free and open to all.
