Back by popular demand! Chasing Crescendos is now available on our YouTube channel. Episode 1 features violinist James Zabawa-Martinez, a New World Symphony Fellow from 2021–2023 and now a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in New York. The episode offers a personal look at his artistic journey, exploring the mental, emotional and artistic process behind each performance and his lifelong passion for sharing music with others.

Through Chasing Crescendos, James shares the experiences and dedication that continue to shape his career as a musician, including his time as a Fellow at New World Symphony, where he had the chance to perform under Michael Tilson Thomas.

Go beyond the performance with Modern Masterworks, a new YouTube series from the New World Symphony. Through performances and conversations featuring Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, the Fellows, and the composers themselves, Modern Masterworks explores the creative process behind contemporary orchestral works shaping today’s repertoire and are helping shape the future of classical music. Reflecting NWS’s commitment to championing living composers, the series offers an inside look at the music and artists shaping the orchestral landscape of today and tomorrow.

The first episode spotlights Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral, performed by Stéphane Denève and the New World Symphony Fellows in May 2024 during his first full season as Artistic Director and in celebration of the work’s 25th anniversary.
