Katelyn Halpern is a multidisciplinary artist from Austin, Texas living in Jersey City, New Jersey. Trained as a dancer and writer and self-taught in other media, she works in installations, performance, multimedia visual art, and the written word on subjects of peace/not peace, intimate relationship, space dust, and possibility-freedom-futures, and always the experience of moving through the world in a feminine body. Hailed as a “compelling conceptual artist,” “mischief maker,” and “born searcher,” (Jersey City Times), she is the founding artistic director of SMUSH Gallery, an art space dedicated to creative and community work in Jersey City. katelynhalpern.com |

The Artist Spotlights Continue with: Tabitha Edwards & Tyron Howard

Tabitha Edwards is a teacher and dancer born, raised, and residing in New Jersey. They hold an Associates in Dance from Middlesex College. Tabitha has presented work for the Middlesex College Dance Ensemble as an alumnus, and for local companies such as Artistic Visions Dance Company, the Rahway Arts and Business Association, and Main Street Theatre Company. In addition to choreographing, Tabitha has performed under Nathan Forster of Reframe Dance Theatre, Stephanie Beauchamp, and Mariah Solonick. They currently teach at multiple studios in Central New Jersey, in hopes of fostering and inspiring the next generation through dance.

Tyron Howard (he/they) is a NJ based choreographer/performing artist. He has performed all over the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York area with various groups and artists such as Freespace dance, Stephanie Beauchamp, Aimee Mitacchione and Mariah Lopez Solonick. They are currently working as a community theater choreographer for the Brook Arts Center Community Players and is a board member for the Brook Arts Center in Bound Brook, NJ . When Tyron isn't being creative, they work as a Physical Therapist Assistant for performers, teaching them the importance of injury prevention.

Gayathri Pratha is a Kuchipudi dancer based in New Jersey and New York and has had the opportunity to share her love for Kuchipudi on various stages, both nationally and Internationally. She has had the opportunity to perform at events such as the Battery Dance Festival in New York, Glasgow Mela in Scotland, and The Nehru Centre in London. In addition to performing, Gayathri is passionate about bringing Kuchipudi to a broader audience and is committed to continuous learning. She is a 2024 Indian Raga Fellow having choreographed and produced multiple videos for their platform and first place winner at the South Asian Arts Symposium Competition.

Matty Mahoski is an interdisciplinary creator. An alumni of NYU Tisch’s Experimental Theatre Wing, Matty’s work focuses on telling stories through a combination of theatrical mediums. As a q***r, non-binary, neurodivergent, Jewish and anti-zionist, artist who lives with HIV, Matty’s experience navigating these intersections of identity and perspective influences their work. Their writing was featured in National Q***r Theatre’s World AIDS Day presentation. They received the 2023 Write It Out! Prize for their full-length play, UN(IN)SURE; and will debut a new full-length play in 2025. Matty was a semifinalist for the 2024 Terrence McNally Incubator. They are developing a short play for CRYHAVOC’s PlayList premiering on October 7th. Their choreography was featured in NY Theatre Barns 2022 OPEN Choreography Lab and at the 2024 SpringForSpring Festival. An excerpt of Matty’s dance-play THE ROCK will be featured at the Dance Bloc Festival at Dixon Place on November 1st.

After receiving a BA in Theatre from Drew University, Nathan Forster danced for choreographers Nina Haft, Michael J. Lee, Charly Santagdao, Marissa Aucoin, and Loretta Fois; and acquired an AFA in Dance from Raritan Valley Community College. Currently Nathan Forster leads ReFrame Dance Theatre as founding artistic director; teaches for and dances with Mignolo Dance of Metuchen; and is modern dance faculty for West Jersey Youth Ballet. He has been a resident artist with Mignolo Arts and the Monira Foundation; served as a guest artist for Middlesex College; and has had his choreography featured at Liberty Hall Dance Festival, When Waves Collide Music and Dance Festival, and Roxey Ballet’s River Dance Festival. Since ReFrame Dance Theatre’s founding in 2019, Nathan’s choreography and collaborative projects have been described as surreal, transformative, frabjous, and “everything you need in a good gumbo at a fancy restaurant.”

First Artist Spotlight for TBD 2024: Kelly Guerrero!

Kelly Guerrero is a freelance dancer, choreographer, and arts administrator. She holds a BFA in Dance and Minor in Business from Montclair State University. She became interested in choreography while studying at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts (CT) during her high school years. Her work has been presented in various concerts in Connecticut, Missouri, New Jersey, and New York. During her studies, she had the privilege of dancing in works by Stefanie Batten Bland, Jessica DiMauro Marks, Martha Graham, Mark Harootian, Larry Keigwin, Fredrick Earl Mosley, Helen Pickett, and Janice Rosario. Awards include a Choreographic Excellence Award from Montclair State University and an Individual Artist Scholarship from the Ridgewood Arts Foundation. Kelly currently dances with The Moving Architects and H.T. Chen & Dancers, and will be a guest performer with Nacre Dance Group this winter. Additionally, she serves as the Managing Director of Dance New Jersey, a service organization advocating for dance and dance education in the state.
