I've survived what doctors didn't think I would.

I've faced betrayal that could have made me bitter, but I chose healing over holding grudges.

I've been through more than most people will ever know, yet I'm still here. Still standing. Still choosing joy.

Now it's my time.

My time to live.
My time to heal.
My time to smile.
My time to embrace every moment this life has to offer.

I'm no longer just surviving—I'm finally living. 💜

Wednesday night was such a vibe! I was actually able to dance and sing ALMOST like the good old days. It was hard on my knee, but Physical Therapy helped fix me.. a little.

Happy LUPUS AWARENESS MONTH 🦋💜 lupus almost killed me 4 years ago and although I beat death, I live with the effects of it everyday, whether it's physical or mental life's a challenge but I push through because I didn't put all that work into recovery just to feel sorry for myself. The truth is I could have avoided all of this if I would've just gone to the hospital in the first place. But I wasn't completely naïve. I actually did seek a doctor. It just got expensive because I didn't have health insurance at the time.

Being a momma to a toddler while dealing with an autoimmune disease isn't always easy, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. She makes me stronger.

Many will never know what goes on in the brain of a stroke survivor. Just because I survived doesn't mean I'm living up to my full potential. I've got the physical part of recovery down, but inside my brain and mind, there's so much more going on. Before I got sick, I had reached the level of loving myself, and I guess you can say I had it all. I'm at the point in my recovery where I have to learn to love myself again. Don't get me wrong; I have a great support system. The issue is within myself. Posting a few pictures to remind myself how far I've come after four years. The photo of me "chilling in my wheelchair" was the day I accomplished sitting up on my own. I decided I was going to sit in my wheelchair a little longer after completing Physical Therapy and look outside my hospital room window. Before my pt session I was only able to lay down because of my physical inability to sit. I was actually strapped to my wheelchair because my nurse couldn't sit there and babysit me while I sat and stared out the window. Besides all of this reminiscing, I haven't had a serious ER visit or seizure in over two years!

Ah where do I even begin to try to explain this emotional roller coaster I've been on for past FOUR years now! One day you're living your best life, then suddenly you go to ER just to not return home after 78 days. On this DAY, February 14th, 2022 the group of doctors that were managing my case decided to save my life. I had a stroke 7 days prior to this day that caused bleeding in the right side of my brain. They did not think I had a chance to survive this. But by the grace of god they decided to give me a chance and did the surgery anyways. For the past four years, I've been focusing on my physical health, and I've been ignoring my mental health. Since this is my fourth year and I've been doing more research on stroke survivors and the effects after a stroke, I vow to focus more on my mental health. No one ever wants to talk about trauma yet alone admit you've been through something traumatic but I've learn being vulnerable doesn't mean you're weak. It means you're a survivor. I am Gina Soun. I had a stroke at the age of 31 and I survived. Now I'm approaching my 36th year of life this month. Although my birthday isn't until February 27, I respectfully hijacked the holiday of Valentine's Day as it has become my second birthday. It was the day God gave me a second chance. I've been living as much as I can, even though deep down I'm sad that my disability limits me to certain things. Grieving your old self is the most dangerous part of this recovery..
