So true! There’s a lot of work behind the scenes!
🎨FACE PAINTING: THE BIT THAT NOBODY SEES BEHIND THE SCENES… 🎨
Here I am still in my pyjamas in typical Friday morning preparation and kit cleaning mode getting ready for a busy weekend of parties.
People often think a face painter turns up with a neat little box of facepaints, pops open a brush wallet, and that’s the whole job. A couple of hours of easy painting and done.
If only.
By the time I’ve painted for a two hour party, I’ve already done several hours of work that nobody ever sees and I’ll have to do it all again afterwards too.
So here’s what you’re really paying for when you hire a professional face painter.
You’re paying for
• The constant cleaning of brushes and sponges before an event
• And then the cleaning again after an event
• The restocking of paints, glitter, gems, wipes, tissues and all the little extras I somehow get through at record speed
• The hours and hours of practice so designs stay fast, tidy and beautiful
• The training, the courses, the certificates, the staying up to date with safe products and best practice
• The insurance, DBS, licences, risk assessments and all the compliance parents never have to think about
• The admin. Messaging, emails, bookings, policies, organising the diary, confirming details, planning set ups
• The washing of clothes after every event. Because even if I stand perfectly still, paint still finds its way onto me
• The car. The petrol. The servicing. The loading and unloading. And the quiet muttering in the driveway when I’m trying to fit everything back in without breaking something.
• The equipment maintenance. Chairs, tables, lights, banners, cloths, signage, mirrors, pens, displays
• The social media and marketing that helps people actually find me
• The gift items I buy so your children go home with something extra
• The hygiene procedures that keep every child safe and every brush fresh
• The organisation that means I arrive on time, fully prepared and able to deal with queues, weather and the unpredictable behaviour of excited small humans
So when you pay a face painter, you’re not paying for “just a couple of hours of painting”. You’re paying for everything it takes to make that possible and to keep it safe, professional, reliable and joyful for your children.
The painting is the fun bit. The hours of work before and after are what make the fun bit look effortless.
That’s the true value of a professional.
