Practice in the studio. Assess. Practice more. Reflect more. Question more. Smile…
I’m enjoying this season of growth in my creative journey so very much. I’m as happy as a bird with a french fry. 😬
A year away from art in 2023 - 24 while pursuing a (rigid) left-brain endeavor 😣 clarified my purpose and my passion 100%👇
• Use BOTH sides: left + right brain, but favor the right in this life season.
• Leave the uninteresting stuff behind.
• Tell the stories, but more importantly — invite the stories.
• Nurture positive and a in self & others.
• Grow every day. ✍️🎨🌱
Now, as I lean into teaching more mixed-media art, I find myself doing what I did as a literacy educator & instructional mentor for 27 years…
Remember how learners FEEL (then: reading, writing, teaching… now: making art). — nervous, unsure, curious, excited when they ‘get it’ & joyful about growth
LISTEN to what Qs (questions) they’re asking. Reply simply w/ guiding questions to help learners discover.
OBSERVE what they do while learning. Adjust my teaching to meet them where they are.
PRACTICE to refine my thinking & my teaching.
All of these instructional practices served me well as an academic. Now, they’re helping me deepen my creativity AND creative instruction & guidance.
Part of the process? Making my own art. Continuing to learn, to question, explore, and discover. Curiosity has always served me well!
100 days is a sure-fire way to growth, too. These two pieces are part of my ‘quiet 100.’ 💚
