While we don’t have a traditional marquee at Merrick Theatre to dim the lights on, we dimmed the lights inside our theatre and created a space for our community to come together and pay their respects to Michael and honor his memory. ❤️🎭

Thank you to the other theatres who participated and helped organize this beautiful tribute, and thank you to everyone who came to pay their respects.

As this tribute was taking place, we were also preparing for opening night of Into the Woods Jr. — and we made sure to reserve a seat for Michael. ❤️

Our 2 casts of into the woods jr. campers have worked incredibly hard these past 6 weeks to put together this show! They can’t wait to share their journey into the woods this weekend!

Merrick Theatre will be participating in dimming the lights this Friday, August 14th at 6pm in honor of our dear friend, Michael Sherwood

On Friday, August 14 at 6PM, The Long Island Theatre Community will be dimming our marquees at several theatres in honor of Michael C. Sherwood.

So far, the confirmed theatres are CM Performing Arts Center, Cultural Arts Playhouse, and Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts. We will update as other theatres are confirmed.

We welcome members of the theatre community and loved ones of Michael to join us at the theatre that is convenient to them as we pay our respects to a man who was always there to support the Theatre Community.

Please arrive by 5:45PM as the dimming will be promptly at 6PM

It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Michael C. Sherwood.

Mike most recently graced our stage as President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Annie and appeared in many productions at Merrick Theatre over the years, including The Sound of Music, Little Woman, Annie and South Pacific.

To know Mike was to love him. He was a dedicated supporter of Long Island community theatre and a friend to so many. Whether he was performing on stage or sitting in the audience, Mike could always be found cheering on and supporting every local theatre and person he knew. His kindness, and love for the arts touched countless lives.

Long Island theatre will never be quite the same without him, we have lost a dedicated performer, loyal supporter, and treasured friend. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Mike’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Mike’s memory will forever remain a part of the Merrick Theatre family.

Our campers were visited by some special guests today! Matt, Eddie, Danny & Bruce from our Main Stage production of Into the Woods stopped by to answer the campers questions about theater, performing, and anything Into the Woods! They especially LOVED getting to hold the Milky White puppet! Campers & cast members also had the opportunity to perform for each other
