Performance dates: November 13, 14, 15

AUDITION PREPARATION

Please prepare a 1–2 minute dramatic monologue of your choice. Does not need to be Shakespearean. Choose something that best showcases your acting abilities. Please be prepared to stay for the entire audition period. You will read multiple sides from MACBETH during the audition following monologues. Director is looking for strong, committed actors.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

Mondays & Thursdays: 6:30–9:00 PM

Saturdays: 12:00–4:00 PM

Additional Tuesdays/Wednesdays periodically for fight choreography.

Actors will not be called to every rehearsal.

Full-week rehearsals will take place leading up to opening.

CASTING

Seeking approximately 22 actors. Cross-gender casting will be used. All roles, with the exception of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, are open to either male or female actors.

ROLES

Macbeth — Scottish general; ambitious, ruthless, and increasingly consumed by fear and guilt.

Lady Macbeth — Macbeth’s ambitious and ruthless wife who ultimately descends into guilt and madness.

The Three Witches — Mysterious supernatural figures who prophesy Macbeth’s future (ONE WITCH HAS BEEN PRE-CAST)

Duncan — Honored and virtuous King of Scotland (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN PRE-CAST)

Malcolm — Duncan’s son and heir; intelligent, cautious, and strong.

Donalbain — Malcolm’s younger brother; intelligent but fearful and emotional.

Macduff — Nobleman who opposes Macbeth and seeks justice for his family.

Banquo — Brave soldier, Macbeth’s ally, and loving father.

Ross — Observant Scottish nobleman.

Lennox — Nobleman who eventually turns against Macbeth.

Angus — Nobleman who joins the resistance against Macbeth.

Seyton — Macbeth’s servant and confidant.

Porter — Macbeth’s household servant; comic relief with moments of insight (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN PRE-CAST)

Fleance — Banquo’s son.

The Murderers — Criminals hired by Macbeth.

Hecate — Goddess of witchcraft.

Lady Macduff — Macduff’s devoted wife and mother.

Macduff’s Son — Young son of Macduff.

Doctor — Court physician who attends to Lady Macbeth.

Nobles, Couriers, Servants, Ladies in Waiting, Attendants & Soldiers — Ensemble roles, with some doubling.

THANK YOU to our audiences who joined us in the park for THE TEMPEST. We hope that you enjoyed free Shakespeare in the Park this summer and that you will join us this fall for MACBETH.

BRAVO!

This was such an incredibly difficult decision. We want to thank everyone that auditioned, turned in tapes, and even showed interest.

As to the cast, congratulations and we will send word about next steps on Monday.

We are looking forward to working with Playhouse Merced to get Come From Away up and in the air for August.
