Owen Maki Studios My name is Owen Maki. This is an independent studio page that I made to showcase my work with drawing and computer graphics, as well as some of my writing.

This is an independent project I made to showcase my work with drawing, computer graphics and writing, as well as keeping people updated on the progress on a couple of animated series I'm working on. I am currently in my fourth year at University of Wisconsin-Stout and am in the Professional Communication and Emerging Media program there since I am aspiring to become a writer, whether it is screen

Updated versions of the characters on my animated series called "MiraNormal" (working title). For those of you who don't know about it, it's about a teenage girl named Mira (short for Mirabelle) who comes from an entire community of paranormal people (her entire family has supernatural powers, as do most of the students and staff at her school), but at the start of the series, she doesn't have any powers or abilities that she's aware of. The plot is basically about Mira trying to find her place in this mystical world and learning more about her community and herself along the way. The series is loosely based on my high school years.

To kick things off with my return to this project, these are my updated designs of the four main "kid" characters: Mira, her brother Nolan, sister Lina and best friend Stephanie. Other characters I have in development (but aren't quite ready yet) are her father Brian, her teacher Miss Larose, and the school bully Finn. Details about these characters will be in their individual photo descriptions.

I'm back!!!! After a four-and-a-half-year hiatus, Owen Maki Studios has returned and is getting an update! 🙆‍♂️

For those of you who don't know me, I am Owen Maki and I am currently in the Professional Communication and Emerging Media major at UW-Stout. When I first started this page, I was studying Graphic Design at MATC, but after a few years, I decided to just let art be a hobby of mine rather than a real profession and I decided that writing was the real career path I wanted to take since I enjoy writing and everyone I know thinks I'm a good writer, so now I'm in a written communication major. However, I do still enjoy doing art independently and that's what I brought back this page for.

Here's a rundown of all the things I currently have planned for this comeback:
1. I am hoping to upgrade my logo some time this week to be more detailed, show some of my other artistic skills, and encapsulate where I am right now.
2. My "Mira" series is still very much in progress. I will post more about this in a few minutes in a separate post, but those who have followed my page from the beginning will see that I have made a few changes to the characters. I am particularly excited to be getting back to this series!
3. Now that I'm in the PCEM major at UW-Stout, I will likely also be using this page to display some writing work that I am particularly proud of.
4. I am now brainstorming ideas for another series, most likely animated (as a successor to Mira), that is a buddy comedy/adventure series where the two main characters are a boy and girl (most likely brother and sister). Their dynamic will be based on my relationship with my amazing sister Teresa Maki Kiesling. ❤👫

For those who saw my announcements about updating this page, I am so sorry it took so long for this to come out. Turns out, life gets pretty busy when you're taking four classes on top of working on campus! But now that my homework has at least started to let up, I am hoping to work around my busy schedule to do some more work on these projects, and I am planning to post updates to this page every Friday night from now on. I am so excited to finally be getting back to this project and show you all some of my work! 🙆‍♂️

Hey guys, sorry I haven't made any updates on this page in a while. I've been extremely busy with schoolwork and whatnot (hey, when you're nearing graduation, how could you not be?). But hopefully, by tomorrow, I'll have everything done for the semester, and I'll have that much more time to work on my cartoon and do some other independent work that I can post here! I promise, my studio is still alive! 😉
