Before he became known around the world as the “Philosopher of Soul,” Johnny Taylor was building his legacy right here in Memphis.

Taylor arrived in Memphis during the golden age of soul music and became one of the biggest stars connected to Stax Records. His powerful voice helped shape the sound of Memphis in the 1960s and 1970s alongside legends like Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, and Al Green.

Songs like “Who’s Making Love” turned Johnny Taylor into a national star, but Memphis never stopped claiming him as one of its own. From Beale Street energy to the deep Southern soul coming out of South Memphis studios, his music carried the sound of the city everywhere it went.

At one point, Memphis soul music was dominating radios across America and Johnny Taylor was right in the middle of it.

MoneyHungry Kaseo was a outstanding member on the ODFG label and started his own label ( Money Hungry Business ) under the ODFG Media umbrella , According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), deputies arrived around 1 a.m. to a home on Crayton Ridge Drive near Appling and Macon roads in Cordova. There, they found a man "with multiple gunshot wounds" and first responders later pronounced him dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

FOX13 also learned that Jones' 18-year-old son was in the home at the time of the shooting. Family members said Jones knew his killer, adding that it someone he took in and provided that person a place to stay.

“Especially for someone to be in your house every day living with you, eating off your plates, living in your house, treating him as your son," Jones' girlfriend said.

The woman didn't hold back her feelings toward the person responsible for taking her boyfriend's life.

"(Expletive), I hope you die a slow death," she said. "You don't do nobody like that."
