Voices of the South is proud to present the 2024 winner of the Yale Drama Series, this dry spell by Keegon Schuett.

Developed in the Voices of the South writers’ workshop, this dry spell comes full circle with the world premiere production at TheatreSouth, February 5-8 and 12-15.

After one night together in the desert, Grace uproots their life to chase after Brahm, a person who is slowly becoming a cactus. Not known for having a green thumb, Grace tends to Brahm and the seeds of their own doubt. Can the desert be a place for love to grow, or are they both just waiting for rain? This deeply personal play aims to provide nourishment to those hiding in the shadows and create a space of recognition and magic for all.

It is with the deepest sadness and love that I share that my dear friend Latrelle Bright passed away Sunday, September 21 at 5:45am in Urbana, IL. Her final moments were peaceful, and she is now finally at rest. An amazing woman, beloved friend, nurturing mentor and exceptional artist, Latrelle left this world better than she found it. Her joy for life, passion for social justice, and her enthusiasm for theatre making made her a force to be reckoned with. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her.
I will post once there is a date and time for her Celebration of Life.
